My sister has confirmed covid-19 and I was in contact with her for a few hours on Monday. The test and trace thing said to self isolate but work has said to come in as long as I have had negative latural flow tests. What should I do please?

You remind work that under UK law you are obliged to isolate because it can take time to show up in results. If they give you hassle you can also remind them that lateral flow testing is not fool proof in the way lab tests are. If they still hassle you can refuse to go in and remind them that their business can be subject to legal action if it's reported they are forcing people to go in despite being told to isolate.

If you were pinged by the Covid app, you are not legally required to isolate, although you really should.

If you were contacted by phone, or any other way, by test and trace, you MUST isolate BY LAW for 10 days. If you don't, I think the max penalty is a fine of £10,000.

In either case you should get some free Lateral Flow Tests from your local chemist. Hopefully, someone could get them for you and post them through your door.

A text means you MUST isolate. I thing this may apply to the whole household. Not sure on that one.

If you are in the UK then it is a legal requirement to self isolate if told to by NHS test and trace and they will likely check to make sure that you are isolating as required. If you were merely pinged by the app, however, then it is not a legal requirement. Still, you should consider it a social responsibility. You could infect someone and they could die or end up very seriously ill.
