Let's be friends...A cop out?

We broke up months ago and just recently started talking again we hooked up several times over the last month and just a few days ago he said he wants to be just really good friends?

Whats the deal? I never thought us hooking up was "not being good friends". I always thought that was just a bonus but now I feel unwanted. Why the change of heart? He told me being friends with benefits isn't what makes him happy. With me or anyone or so he says. I feel like maybe he thought I was getting attached or is this his cop out for not hurting my feelings seeing that he doesn't even want me as a friend or a lover? Any advice?

I honestly think he started to catch some feelings for me again and realized it and just decided to be friends. We were seeing each other up to 2 times a week and I was texting him about everyother day at nights . just asking how his day was and if he wanted to come over or me go over to his place. maybe that scared him off..as in thinking I was gettng a bit too serious like a girlfriend instead of a fwb?

Well, I can only think of three reasons why a guy would turn down easy sex w/o commitment as in this case

He met someone new

He's all of a sudden gay

He's just not attracted to you sexually anymore but likes you enough he wants the friendship

or

he's fallen for YOU and wants a commitment from you, OK that's 4

You should be able to tell by the way he acts when he's with you seeing as your the one that's with him. If it's not the last reason I would say it's just a cop out. He's making up an excuse. When ever I ended it with a FWB type relationship it was always because I met someone & was starting a relationship but always tried to remain friends & on good terms with her if I could.

It sounds like he might have met someone he wants to get serious with. Just ask him straight out.

When he's with me, I keep my distance and he always approaches me. The last time we were together, he initiated everything. So the following day I asked if he had been hooking up with anyone else and he said no and that he honeslty thought we should just be friends even though he loved the sex and me coming over. He said a friends with benefits realtionship isn't what makes him happy but his boyfriend told me his is dating several people and he just wants to be single and mess around.

I think he is not able to handle a FWB kind of relationship. He wants to be "just" friends.
