Would you keep the child if it turned out like this? Along with many other physical ailments and delayed mentally?
I know someone who's child looks exactly like this with the same syndrome. My friend said that she'd never walk around with a kid looking like this because it is embarrassing.

So you guys would keep a child who has no quality of life and is suffering just because you want it here? How would u feel if u were forced to live like the child
If your child came out like looking like this along with many other medical problems would you keep it?
At this current low level of medical knowledge, the kid should be euthanized at birth.
And a lot of government should always go into medical research to fix or to prevent all types of problems.
If no alternative, then i would keep it. Yeah, maybe feel a bit of shame, it's normal human emotion/reaction.
Still would try to give the kid some enjoyment in life. Although, many do suffer a lot this way. So it is a real dilemma.
If my kid would be in constant pain and etc and doctors wouldn't/couldn't do anything about it, while the kid had other issues too. Then i would most likely end the suffering the most humane way possible and go to jail.

First, your friend should never have children with that attitude... A child has to be perfect, look perfect for you to love them? And then too, what about the children that aren't born disabled or disfigured during their childhood? Would you stop loving them/get rid of them at that point? And also, maybe different quality of life, but can't say no quality of life for the children that have great parents that still love them, cherish them, take care of them and still see them as a beautiful child, not an embarrassment...

Girl the family will not let it go and you're right. The kid is now 18 can't walk, talk, eat on its own, in diapers just a vegetable drooling all day. The parents are now in their 50s changing diapers, giving 30 meds a day, their house looks like a hospital, they can't go on trips any more, the kid has doctor appointments every week so they pack 2 suit cases worth of medical supplies. They need to just euthanize it
Theyāre not an āitā theyāre still a human being. Their parents were too selfish to abort it. Thatās no way to live. Whoās going to take care of the kid when they die?
I would not say euthanize it, but place it in an institution where it will get 24 hr a day care, something the parents will not be able to do the rest of their lives.

Seriously, consider re-evaluating your friendship with her. As a 6-decade student of human nature, I am telling you that woman is not the kind of woman who will 1) be there for you when you really need her and 2) gossip with her other "friends" about you.
I think the parents should have done extensive genetic testing on them kind of children also they can't walk, talk, eat, has a feeding tube, etc... Yes, I believe something should be done I knew of this woman who had one child after another and there was one child being born without a brain and she still wanted to give birth to it and the doctor warned her and her husband that she could abort it and she gave birth and within an hour the baby died while she held it and it was beautiful but had no brain.
Had we been animals, such an offspring would have been abandoned or perished soon after. However, we are humans, and as such have a level of compassion. So there is no question of abandonment. Such a child is innocent and needs care and love to achieve full potential in life, whatever it might be.
But exactly what potential would a vegetable have? Would you want to spend your life taking care of a child like this 24/7? In this instance the child would have to be placed in an institution. It makes little sense when millions of healthy babies are aborted every year.
@Daniela1982 - I think vegetable is a derogatory term, the person when born is a person and entitled to all protections and privilages of your constitution. Sometimes people get into an accident, suffer from cancer, or via old age become vegetative, and we don't remove them from existance. We tried them once, it was called the T4 program undertaken by the Nazis, and we all know what kind of people they were.
I'm not talking about abortion here, the question is clearly if the child "came out" like this, meaning he or she was already born. Secondly, yes I agree such a child would require state assistance, and that is what welfare states are for.
As opposed to what? Shoving it back in and asking for a refund? Youād have to be a massive piece of shit to abandon a high needs child because youāre embarrassed of how they look

The child is now 18 and has severely declined even more. Can't walk, talk, eat, use the bathroom on their own, can't read , write, the parents health insurance is maxed out. The parents are 50 so if they have an emergency they are screwed. They can keep the child and continue maxing out their insurance once again for another 3 years but it remains the same the kid will not get better. It's a waste of time
It's a vegetable. There is no quality of life the child is suffering. What is the point of keeping it to live a short life, take multiple meds, have multiple operations that's not a life.
Euthanize it. That would've been better for the child than having a 15th operation to where it may die on the table again. No doctors want to touch the child anymore because the child is too much of a liability. Died on the table during an operation they had to stop. And even with 14 operations the child is still a vegetable. Why keep dragging the child through that? If the child could talk do you think they'd really want to be here?
So if u were in the same position as this kid you'd want your family to keep you alive while you're on a breathing machine and taking 30 meds, a diaper, can't walk or talk. Can't eat either and have a feeding tube? Like how fair is that?
In most countries, including my own itās not. Euthanasia is occasionally legal in cases where the person themselves initiate a form of assisted suicide when they later become incapable of making that effort themselves - itās not for killing severely disabled children the parents chose not to abort. If theyāre against abortion well they chose this life for them and their child and that burden while life consuming and difficult was their choice.

Who are any of us to say this child doesn't have a quality of life worth living? That kind of misconception is made about kids with down syndrome and those kids are amazing human beings who grow into amazing adults.
I don't know. Depends on what our options are, how early we realize it and how my partner feels about it. Ideally we could test for it early on and terminate the pregnancy if they have any thing that is going to result in them being physically deformed or mentally disabled and unable to care for themselves. I am a strong believer in quality of life over life being the priority. Life for the sake of life even if it means constant suffering seems dumb to me.

That's my point too. The kid has had 14 surgeries now going on 15 surgeries and still it looks like that, can't walk, talk, eat, shits on its self at 18. Still in diapers. The parents insurance is maxed out due to the multiple surgeries, doctors appointments, and 30 medications this child is on. So now if they the parents has a medical emergency themselves they have to pay out of pocket. And they're in their 50s
Yeah, I guess the problem is they waited so long. Like legally can they even have their child euthanized at this point. Plus they probably have the sunk cost emotional investment where it would be really difficult to go through with it even if they could. It should have been much done earlier on like ideally before giving birth.

Their excuse was also that they didn't know she was like that til birth which I don't believe because ultrasound would've revealed the child's oversized head
Thatās not even something to question, of course Iād keep it and Iād do anything and everything to take care of MY child and give her/him the best care they could get. That would be my responsibility as a parent and if I ever want to abandon my kid because they were born sick, which by the way is not even something that they chose or could control, then I never deserved to become one.
Yes!! I conceived him and delivered him and it is my responsibility to take care of him no matter how he looks or what his problems are. A child Not be born perfect is Nothing to be embarrassed about. All of the processes taking place while a baby is being developed, it is a Miracle any of us get here and are Not sick or deformed!
Itās too late to not keep them once theyāre born. If given the opportunity to give birth to a healthy child or a non healthy child the choice is obvious.
Of course you would. Anyone that has had children already would never give up on their child. I would burn down a village to save a house for them. I feel like people should have their own rights when it comes to their own body but once you are pregnant it's not just your body anymore and past one month if you get rid You have Lost a part of your soul.

The kid has a hole in its throat, crooked legs and arms, the toes are on the wrong foot like literally. But would u want to be kept alive like that

This child will have life long complications which it has. Let's be realistic it needs to be euthanized
The parents insurance is maxed out because of this child. If the parents become sick they will either have to suffer or pay out of pocket. Out of pocket cost is expensive. If the parents die the state takes over. No one will foster an unhealthy child. It's facts.
I hope this kid grows up not disliking everything in the world and someone is kind enough to show them love does exist. Chances are this kid is going to suffer like I have because this world is full of shitty people.

Don't pull that shit, your original question wasn't about keeping the child or not because of its suffering. Your original question was about keeping a child because of its "embarrassing" qualities. I'm beginning to think that this "friend' is actually you because you sound like a dip shit.
And everyone who is saying they would snuff their child's life out just because of the condition they are born with... YOU ARE IN NO POSITION OF BEING A PARENT IN THE FIRST PLACE. We on earth are in no position to determine who lives and who dies. The one up in the clouds is the only one to make that decision. And people who are born with this defect, we have no way of knowing if they are in pain or in peace, since they can't talk to us. So from where I am sitting... it sounds more like you are just embarrassed by how they look rather than the special needs they would require. Maybe those who are yelling "ABORTION!!!" on this question should be asking themself how they feel they are qualified to be a Parent, if they could even THINK of putting that word against their own child. A GOOD Parent would say they would do whatever they could for their baby because they would love them NO MATTER WHAT.

there is really no point in them keeping it.. the parents have already maxed out their insurance on the kids surgeries the next one will be the 15th surgery yet the child still can't walk, talk , eat, shits on themselves. It's pointless just get rid of it. It's on 30 medications.
I understand parents love of a child, my nephew is high functioning autistic, but that child will never have quality of life and wouldnāt know the difference anyhow.
Autistic child I would keep. Autism isn't life threatening and they can do well. They're actually very smart their learning style is just different. The child in the picture doesn't even compare to a child with Autism. An Autistic or down syndrome child aren't vegetables. They are high functioning.
Even if you have to personally have to take care of him 24/7, just like a newborn? Except he will be like a newborn the rest of his life. And speaking of life, you would not have one as it would be a full time 24/7 job. No time for vacation, a job, a full night's sleep, or anything else. A newborn needs feeding every 2 hours and then in between that there are diaper changes. I don't think you have the slightest clue of what you would be in for. In the end you would place it in an institution after you had your break down.

I can appreciate what you saying regarding not having a clue. Although I think Iād be prepared for infant who needed 24/7 assistance. I help take care of my aunt whoās mentally disabled and I cared for my grandmother who had stomach cancer and my grandfather who had congestive heart failure.

i was almost in a similiar situation twice with two of my pets who had to be euthanized. they struggled to breathe. it's hell on earth making those type of decisions. it eats away at you mentally emotionally and even physically from being worn down tired not able to eat or sleep ready to vomit over any decision you make. it's pure hell a total nightmare. people have to do what's in the best interest of the person or animal effected in those type of situations and shouldn't make any moves unless several doctors are consulted to give an unbiased decision
Right these people are unrealistic. They're saying they'd keep it but wait until their insurance is maxed out bmto the point they can't care for their own needs when they're sick. Thus kid has maxed their parents insurance out within 4 months. The kid isn't worth it
Usually there is genetic testing done and ultrasound. The child's features are pretty distinctive. So you'd have an idea especially with the head being that oversized that's signs of a problem. It's not about personally responsibility it's about quality of life. This kid is a vegetable. That's life long complications and the kid is headed for its 15th surgery.
