I’m socially awkward so don’t know if I overstepped a mark or something?

Me and my partner aren’t the best at making friends as we are a bit socially awkward and don’t go out loads.

We met new neighbours who asked us to a local bar. We went and invited them for dinner and on another occasion we went to theirs.

I usually text the wife and she seems to run things. She sent me an event and asked if we all wanted to go so we have that booked in with them. The other day she just sent me a message with a picture of some other event (before the next event) which I took as her wanting me to say shall we go so I did and we are all going.

they seem keen to meet up so we took it as them wanting to be friends. They are always dropping small gifts at our door but don’t knock. The other day we opened the door as the husband was leaving something and invited him in for a coffee. He said he had to get home which was fine. I was texting the wife to say thanks for the gift and she said they know they are welcome at ours but sometimes just dropping things off was fast and easier.

just found it odd that she messaged that, we feel awkward now. The husband had said why not and then she mentioned that in text. Also we thought it was a friendly thing to do, inviting someone for a quick coffee but we felt like her saying that was sort of drawing a line? We don’t know what to think as we don’t really have friends…
