Did you ever go trick-or-treating in the rich neighborhoods when you were a kid?

I lived in an apartment for most of my trick or treating years so we just went from one apartment building to another and the owners of the building would give each visitor a bag of Candy that was bought by the apartment managers which was excellent because one bag equaled about 20-50 houses worth of candy donations if not more, you visit 4 apartment buildings or 5/6 and you get 3x what you would have gotten going door to door. Society has changed. We sometimes did not get a single visitor to our home during Halloween because people are afraid strangers will try to poison them, the culture of trust I grew up with as a child no longer exists, and we live in a nice area, not a gangster area or a high crime one.
Of course. Learned quickly which rich neighborhoods were givin it out. Some them rich MF were stingy af😤
from 3rd grade, we'd moved to the hilly 'burbs of Pgh's So. Hills and my Mother, myself and two younger brothers would HAVE to detour back to the house to dump our initial shopping bag haul before going back out.
Our grandparents would 'hold down the homefront' and sort the prestige candy (Hershy's, Mounds, Kit Kats, Mars bars, Clark bars, etc.) from the lesser quality generics like candy corn pieces.
And we'd have them 'recycle' those lesser candies IN ADDITION TO boost our offering of the prestige brand candies we'd purchased for the kids who'd hit our house!
A 'trickle down' win/win!
Oh, yeah they gave out full candy bars. And occasional tooth brushes. Lots of dentists in those neighborhoods.

I was brought up in a working class neighbourhood, every now and then we'd go to the slightly better neighbourhoods at Halloween to trick or treat and 90% of them would refuse to answer the door... there was one house that always answered and rather than give money/sweets gave mini copies of religious scripture... as she didn't believe in Halloween!! ... now no offence to anyone that is religious but that's nothing you should be expected to deal with as a 10 year old when your currency is 99% sweets lol
lol... this sure happened on my streets when I was growing up, and not only for the candy, they actually had great display on their big ass gardens and the most enthusiast had scare props and even haunted garages and stuff
I didn't care for candy... although I never threw eggs at people, I would hang out with that crowd on the roofs... lol
That was the main way to go. Shit some of them be like āoh im sorry little lady, i dont have any candy, take these $5 and go buy some at the storeā. Shit started hustlin young. Racked up!!
But also we only trick or treat at houses with the porch light on. The mfs shouldve turned their light out
Where I lived it was a suburb with a bunch of white people. Who all had money. So I kinda lived in the rich neighborhoods. The really rich neighborhoods are gated and you canāt trick or treat there.
I will say youād think youād get more from rich people but you probably wonāt. Rich people are stingy with their money.
what like Beverly hills?
did you ever take more than 1 candy if they left outside?
have you ever gone tricker or treating?
i find that hard to believe. do you live in a poor area?
Yes always my cousin and I we always had two costumes and we could go for hours LOL and then when I had kids absolutely love taking them when my daughter what's 4 she would knock on the door and I would say what do you say and she always would say Merry Christmas instead of trick or treat or happy birthday
No rich neighborhoods anywhere near where I grew up, much less any within walking distance. On the other hand, it was a very safe neighborhood to walk around in at night. The only real risk was getting hit by a car while running across the street.
i always wanted to end up going to a house like Allison's in Hocus Pocus. <3 Our "rich people" stopped doing candy when they found out that tons of kids were changing costumes and coming back for more and more. It was fun while it lasted though.
no... we learned at an early age why the rich are rich... its because they keep it all for themselves. far more fun on the poor estate i lived on
I've never gone trick or treating door-to-door at all. I was always taken to a mall, hospital, or somewhere similar that was more regulated.
Bella I only ever went trick-or-treating in my own middle class neighborhood. I wouldn't describe the neighborhood I grew up in as rich.
🎃
Well im in a kinda upper middle class neighborhood already so no need lol
i mean it wasn't always like this but we never had issues trick or treating here.
When I was a kid? Nah, that was before candy was invented!! lol
Probably. I do not remember.
There really weren't any 'rich' neighborhoods in my small hometown.
Except that there was one rich guy in my neighborhood. I don't think his candy was any better than anyone else's.
Well, Iād say above average middle class neighborhoods.
I STILL do that. (Of course, minus the taking candy part) Halloween is my favorite. I see it as the perfect excuse to dress up and hang out. It's like a Comic Convention!
no lol in my neighborhood it was just a different mix of some moms being generous with the good candy and other houses where u didnāt even get candy but the dad would just mess with u for even trying to walk on his lawn 🤣
Yeah, now they drop off kids on my street. I don't mind I buy lots of candy for them.
yes, they never gave out much. the real scores were the ones who left bowls out
Nah i always was in the hood lol when i was ignorant in 08' me and the homies use to run around and tear up McCain signs in peoples yards if it wasn't Obama but i don't fuck with Biden
We weren't allowed to go trick or treating when I was young.
All over as a Kid. Good candy and stuff no matter the hand. hahaha
C. I've never lived anywhere near rich neighborhoods, lol.
Yes lol my dad would always take us there to get the better candy
Iāve always lived in the neighborhood other kids came or come too. Not rich, but nice and very safe.
Nope but at least it was around the peaceful suburbs.
Yeah there was this one house that every year they dumped like an entire basket in till they moved
Yes I was poor so my costume was always some bullshit I made at home
It's WAY better as an adult! The right neighborhoods serve great drinks and have high-end snacks too!
Wasn't a thing where I grew up, it would just be seen as plain begging.
A few times. My neighborhood was better, tbh.
Lol, I see plenty of people today do it, they drive from one side of the town to the other.
Funny to hear that it's a common problem.
Don't bother, most of them are cheapskates. lol
I grew up in a "well off" area. So, yeah.
No, we just went in our own neighborhood.
Yeah, we hit the rich peoples houses up LOL
Yes lol. Iāll do that still with my sisterās kids.
Nope. I did, however go for a long route.
Yes I was so poor I had to use my backpack.
I lived in one of the rich neighborhoods.
Never been trick or treating
Yep every year lol
*hands you jolly ranchers* here ya go kid!
@Still-alive ššš Thanks
