+1 yAbsolutely not. How can it be "selfish" to not have children you don't want? Selfish towards whom, the unborn child who will never know the difference? I've never understood why some people say it's selfish, and have never gotten a straight answer for why it's selfish from anyone who believes that.
I actually think it's responsible to not have children if you either simply don't want them, and/or don't think you could provide the life they need. Much less selfish than parents who have children knowing they aren't mentally/emotionally/financially stable enough to give them a good upbringing, or knowing they don't want them. Kids are not stupid and pick up on the fact that they are not wanted or appreciated by their parents, and that their parents are unhappy.
If you know you don't want children, do not sway your decision based on what other people think/want. If your partner wants kids, it's unfortunately probably best to go your separate ways and find people who are on the same page as you about having kids, as that isn't something that can be compromised on, and one person will be unhappy regardless of the outcome.23 Reply
Asker+1 yI guess because people think the ones that don't want kids, they're self absorbed and just care about themselves (yes they think like this) but of course that's a shit way of thinking and I couldn't give a flying fuck what others think✌
- +1 y
Very true! The ironic thing is that most of the narcissistic and extremely self absorbed people I know actually did end up having kids, but don't care one bit about them and dump them off on whomever they can. It would actually be ideal that they didn't have kids for the sake of said kids.
Asker+1 yExactly!! Now that is wayyy more selfish

I don’t want marriage or to buy a house.
Some people just don’t want things that our society projects onto us.
Learn to walk, colour, talk, go to school, get a job, rent a place, go to college, buy a house, get a pet, find a spouse etc. just because it’s what we are programmed to do, doesn’t me we have to.
Some of us do our own thing and there’s nothing wrong with that. Lots of narrow minded folks out there will insist you do those things and will treat you so rudely for not doing so etc.20 Reply

No I think you are a very smart human being I think you are my hero because there are so many people that don't even think about that and then they have a baby and then once they have a baby they don't know what to do we can't take care of the baby right they don't have the funds the money to take care of the baby right or even the knowledge I think you are great for being honest looking ahead and just being real it tells me right there you would be a good parent but is it same time you're my hero there should be more women like you even more men like you did have the balls enough to stand up and say you know what I don't care what anybody else thinks this is me my life and I don't need a baby a child in my life to make me happy

Unless I make enough money for my kids to take a vacation trip every year there is no way I'm having any. Call me materialistic but I had to be denied so many things growing up, my parents did their best and more but their best was never enough.
They made enough money to put me in a private school but I was the poor kid there as everyone else were flaunting their parents wealth. Superficial as it was it always ate away at me and now I am doing all I can and more to ensure I'm never poor again and any kids I have never live what I lived00 Reply

+1 yAbsolutely not, no. I don't want to have kids either. (by that I mean I don't want to get a woman pregnant) if that makes me selfish in someone else's mind than so be it. I couldn't give two fucks what they think and you shouldn't either. What is selfish is having unprotected sex, getting pregnant and using abortion as a form of birth control. now THAT is selfish.

Asker+1 yWord!!!
No you're definitely NOT selfish. Don't listen to people who call you that. I'm not interested in having children either because like you I don't want that added responsibility and I also have student loans to pay
50 ReplyHow the he'll is that selfish. People have a problem with seeing others happy. When they say you're being selfish for not having children what they're really saying is I'm jealous of you because I have kids and I can't live my life the way I want to like you can

You are not selfish.
Rather, you have been indoctrinated by the Communist shitbags who work as teachers and lecturers.
During their 30s, most women have an epiphany and realise that they have been indoctrinated by Communists/Feminists who want to hurt them, destroy the lives of women, as part of the larger Communist plan to destroy Western Civilisation.
By the time that the epiphany happens, it is usually too late to turn that ship around.
Consequently, such women spend the rest of their lives crying themselves to sleep.00 ReplyIt depends. Some people have good reasons for why they don't want kids. But its not uncommon to find "those who do not want kids" in selfish populations. I do not tend to like the type of folks who say they would never marry, never wants to have a family, is not family oriented. The only thing they want to do is date around until their dicks run out by the time they hit 60. These folks do not tend to be very family oriented or place much importance on relationships or social warmth. They like to be independent because it gives them an easier time in life (since its easier to just care about yourself and nobody else). These are definitely not caring people who you can depend on for anything.
00 ReplyYou'll get bonus points for reducing your carbon footprint.
But... seriously... I hope you know the answer to your question is an obvious "no..." at least in most areas of the world. I suppose there could be an exception if you live in a place where you're expected to carry on the family line or something.
Life doesn't gain anything from coming into existence though. It's just fine out in the void in its current state of yet-to-be. There's no real reason to create more of it, unless someone wants it to come to be.00 Reply
+1 yNo. Childbirth can cause health issues and be dangerous. Also maybe some people aren’t fit for parenthood. I think it’s actually LESS selfish being able to recognize you’d be unable to give them the responsibility of a parent and opt out. It shows you care about the life you’d bring into the world.
10 Reply746 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. no... the fewer kids being born the better the chance of the planet surviving a bit longer. you know since i was born in 1967 the global poppulation has more than doubled. we can't go on like this

Anonymous(18-24)+1 yno! i personally want kids, but we have the right to decide whether we want kids or not, and if you decide not to, that’s fine.
It’s a common saying that women were put on earth to reproduce and it’s our God given gift to bear children, but some people disagree, and again; that is okay.
children are a big responsibility, for the majority of your life. they will be under your wing for more than 18 years, they will depend on you and your finances, love, care, affection, time, etc… and some people don’t feel ready or want that!
you are not selfish. you are your top priority.00 ReplyIt's way more selfish to have kids than to not have them. There's way too many people already, don't create more unless you really really want to raise kids.

+1 yNo, you're not selfish. It is a big investment and not an easy matter of life should you choose that. Truthfully, there are people out there who shouldn't even be parents because they are terrible at it.
The lifestyle isn't for everyone and you shouldn't be demonized or scorned for not wanting any. There are plenty of guys out there than don't want kids either. You are not alone in feeling this way and you are not selfish for not wanting kids.10 ReplyThere is nothing selfish about not wanting to have kids. People who have kids just for the sake of it are selfish, cause they want a baby so bad that they don't realize that that life they created won't be a baby for ever and that it will take a lot of responsibility to raise them right. Most of those people are not fit for parenthood, they just wanted it cause "babies are cute".

+1 yAbsolutely not. I'm sure you have your reasons. I don't want to have kids EVER because I'm scared I'll mess them up or make them fear me or do the same things my parents did to me. I'm not willing to hurt a human being that I brought to this world.
20 ReplyI didn't vote, there's one key piece of data missing for my answer so I'll write both.
Yes - if you weren't up front about this position before engaging with your partner.
No - If you and the person you're with agree that this is the course for your relationship.00 Reply- 464 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic.
+1 yYou are not selfish at all for not wanting kids. It is your choice and what you feel is best for you. And people who say this... It is like, who are you selfish towards? Someone who was never born? It doesn't make sense for someone to say that not wanting to have kids is selfish.

+1 yI don't want them either and no, I don't think it's selfish, at least not as selfish as having them.
Bringing someone into this world without their consent (you can't consent to that either), when:
There's no certainty that they'll live a happy life.
What happens once you die remains to be seen
Due to the above, it seems more selfish to have them, as you're taking a gamble with someone else's life.00 ReplyThe answer is yes, but not how you think. Yes you are being selfish but not on a bad way. You simply said, "I don't want the extra responsibility". So you are putting yourself first so yes. This is just a technicality and there's nothing wrong with your choice from a moral standpoint lol. Free will is a thing after all.
00 ReplyNo, I mean technically we were all put on this earth to reproduce, but honestly the world is way over populated anyway, you're probably doing it a favour!

A lot of people have kids for selfish reasons, saying they want a mini-them running around, someone to take care of them when they're elder etc.30 Reply
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yIf anything, having kids in today's messed up world, just because it's expected, is the selfish thing to do rather than choosing not to have them. So many people have kids out of boredom, out of fear of being alone, to continue their line, and all other kinds of selfish reasons.

+1 yI made the same decision and I know it's my right and no one should interfere with it except my future husband.
Some people have children just because they want to and they have no idea how to be responsible or how to raise a child properly. I think that some people have children because it's a tradition. I love that we started to know that having children isn't for everyone.00 Replybruh as if the population isn't inflating enough as it is, no

+1 yNo it's not wrong for you to not want kids at this point in your life. Matter fact that's more respectful that you choose not to have children so that you don't make your life difficult if you're not ready for motherhood.
10 ReplyChild-free means more monetary and time resources, so you can do more with your life. There are people who have too many children to ever do everything they wanted. The world doesn't have a population problem either, so you can't even say selfish.
00 ReplySure, but it's better than having kids and being a shitty parent.
