Happy Thanksgiving - Does it get worse?

So this morning I lost my wallet at the market, and after an hour of looking and talking to the market people, I found it in the footwell of my car on the driver's side. Yes, It gets worse. I have no family, and my friends all live far away (San Francisco), so I once again get to spend Thanksgiving alone with no meal (I can't cook). On the bright side, I am on call so I will make some money and talk to people who have it far worse than I do and where I work there are these awful food vending machines so I will not starve. It could be FAR worse.

What about you - could it be worse?

I can give you a simple recipe to help you out man. A Thanksgiving dinner without all the flash and all. I'm alone mostly. Just my dad and me.

Go to the deli section and get some thick cut turkey from a decent brand like Butterball or something that has "Oven roasted" in the title and make sure it's water content is low. Go get some Heinz turkey gravy. Put the meat with the grave at low heat in a pot. Get a box of quick stuffing, bullion cube, and 2 tablespoons of butter. When the bullion cub is melted with the butter throw the instant stuffing in and mix with the heat off. It will all combine very quickly. crack open a can of cranberry sauce. Now spread some mayon and the turkey and gravy in a nice long sub roll, put the stuffing and cranberry sauce over top. You got yourself a Thanksgiving sub. its really good actually.

I have a client who is a Filipino. She met a man in the US Navy while he was stationed in the Philippines and they married, returned to the US and had one child, a son. When the son was 19 years old, he drowned in a retention pond thats hould not have been open to swimming. About a year later, the woman's father died and the woman and her husband returned to the Philippines for the funeral. While there, the husband had a massive coronary event and died. She now lives in the US, all alone, and on a very meager budget.

When I think I have it bad, I think about her to put things in perspective.

And getting together with family is very overrated. I enjoyed hanging out with my parents' cat but aside from that and sum tasty food, there was the usual weird holiday tension in the air. And the Lions lost again. 0-10-1. :(

Go volunteer for something on Thanksgiving, then you'll get all the food you want and some new friends nearby

Thank goodness, my dad and mom for teaching me how to cook. When all else fails, buy a turkey drumstick, boil water, cook drumstick in boiling water for an hour. Use some of the water to make instant mashed potatoes and some stuffing, then open a can of cranberries. Buy a slice of pumpkin pie at the deli. Voila!! Instant, (within an hour or so), Thanksgiving dinner for one.

I'm sorry to hear that you don't have anyone to spend Thanksgiving with, man. I can assure you there are many others in your position as well. Have you considered helping to serve a meal at a homeless shelter? You may find a sense of community with your fellow human beings there and it is a great way to give and serve those less fortunate.

Good idea, except this evening and on many evenings I take care of Psychiatric patients. It would be just like being home except with no vending machines. Thanks for the idea though.

Dude, learn to cook! Can you boil water? You can cook pasta, potatoes, boil eggs.

Fry onions in oil or butter (low heat, they turn soft, high heat they turn crispy); add chopped tomatoes (from a can, if you like). Presto! Tomato sauce!

It's really not difficult, just find a highly rated recipe online and follow it (watch out for ones that don't mention salt; they may have thought it was obvious).
