If you have or had a child how would you or how did you discipline them when they were younger?

From my years with kids (from working part time at a daycare to the church daycare/nursery) I've seen parents spank their children, I've also seen some yell at their children while others either talked to them gently or ignored their behavior completely. There's apparently so many ways but which way was the right way and which is the wrong way.

I will raise my kids just how my parents raised me but by being more understanding. It depends on the age usually. If the kid is of 3-6 years then talking with stern voice will be more than enough or a simple glare can discipline them. At the age of 6-9 I will use that technique my mom used at me. Which is not really hitting the kid but like making them scared to do any wrong things. While study time my mom used to make a roll out of newspaper and whenever I will not concentrate then she used to hit that newspaper roll very hard at table making a loud sounds which kind to scared me and I continued with my work. At the age of 10-11 if the kid does something wrong knowingly (as they are naughty enough at that time) then I will kind of yell at them and say things like, "Your punishment is that you can't watch TV for a week and at your TV time you will sit and do Maths!". In teenage years I won't be very strict to them but treat them with love because at that time frustration and stress comes. It is a very vulnerable time when small things can make the kid sad. They usually tend to overthink that time more. However I will yell at them if they did something knowingly wrong which was just for fun and wasn't helping them at all. Other than that I will try my best to understand their situation and support them or make them understand what they are doing isn't right. In short be like their friend not mom. I will avoid physical punishments at all cost.

Im going to try my best to talk it over in a calm tone. If they continue to do it as if they didn't hear me, then i’ll yell. If they still do it, then i’ll snatch em up by the collar and whisper to stop playin with me. I’d likely only spank if they hit me first, have sex underage or do drugs/alcohol. But i dont believe in spanking with weapons. A hand to the butt while theyre still dressed is enough. I’ll occasionally pop em upside the back of the neck/head. My mom used to thump my ear. Worst pain ever.

I grew up with our family always having one or a few dogs at home. These dogs were always well behaved yet never punished beyond a sharp "No!" at even the worst of times.

I think humans are more or less the same. How severely one needs to discipline depends on where you put the bar for normal. My parents stating that they were unhappy with something I had done likely hit me harder than a friend's parents trying to win a screaming contest.

I have also worked with kids to some degree. Even if only in a mentoring capacity. Throughout these experiences I have absolutely found that how severe I need to be depends on our relation, nothing else. A few soft words do enough.

I don't think spanking is horrible, and I'm sure it works rather well. But I don't want that to be an aspect in the relationship between my children and myself. I don't want them to see me as the person who might inflict physical pain onto them, I just don't want that to even be a thought that crosses their mind. So I plan to discipline them through grounding/restrictions.

If I had a child I would talk gently to them speak to them not at them. I have a younger brother we never fight I respect him and he respects me. I give him guidance when he needs it. I would do the same for my child.

Well I would try to reason out to them, why a certain behaviour is not good in the long run. Will try to let the truth out ad much as possible.
If my child can't confide in me, I have to grow up to be a better parent.
