Should I not listen to music with headphones while crossing the street?

A friend of mine says that when I cross the road I may not hear a car being driven. When I listen to music, I just look in front of me. But it has become a habit for me. Is it inconvenient?

Don’t know about others but what I’ve been taught is to always pay attention on street no matter is on sidewalk or crossing. I would never wear headphone or earphone on street. Don’t assume all people would follow rules. Even they do, accident happened all the time, be alert and let your ears open to prevent unreversible tragedy.

I would pause it, or pull one of the earphones for the few seconds it takes to cross. Even if your in the crosswalk, walking with the light, and are 100% in the right to cross. You're the squishy one when it comes right down to it.

Yes I know lol. But most of the time I'm not aware of what's going on because I get too immersed in the music.
