What is a friend to you? Is is someone who has a proven track record of stabbing you in the back or is it someone you feel you can trust with most or all things? You don't need to stick around or try to redeem yourself in the eyes of people who have no respect for you in the way they treat you. Being the strong person here is realizing your own power, in that you deserve friends who treat you well, and then leave these and go find those.

I too went through a rough patch in my teens and most my "friends" didn't think much of me.

Since then I traveled and made new friends, friends who see me strong and capable who belive in me and do not see themselves as better than me.

And now even if I go back to see the old friends they will meet a new person.

To grow, you need distance.

Be independent. Know the resources so that you don't need to get anyone's help.

If you spend your time worrying about changing others opinion you will waste your whole life, because in life there will always be a pain in the ass that sooner or later has a problem with you. You can't spend your whole life trying to appease people, you'll be miserable.
