Are some dads getting softer with their kids nowadays?

Growing up, it was mainly my mother going the stern talking, placing the curfew and delivering the punishment. Very rarely was it my father and if it was then it only happened when mom wasn't unavailable at the time and I've really gone too far. Otherwise he hated doing that and he was the cool, funny good cop/parent.

I've seen this trend going on within my family and a couple friends. They said it was their mother being the tougher parent and the father is the chill, softer parent.

I did something wrong about ten years ago and my father grounded me for a week but my younger siblimg (9) did the same thing and he was disciplined with a lecture

What dads? More kids are being raised fatherless now than ever before. Or at least it seems that way.

Then I guess I had a strange upbringing. I rarely saw my dad as a stern, disciplinarian. My mom on the other hand was not to mess with. If I got invited to a party with friends during my early teens, while my dad told me to be careful and be in contact, if my mom said ''No you're not going anywhere'' then she had the final word. There was no backing up her NO.
