Is it natural for some fathers to be softer with daughters, why is that?

My father had me at age 42 and my mom is his current and 2nd wife.

He previously had 3 sons (my half brothers) with his ex wife. From what I've learned from them and others, he was very strict and old-school with them.

With me; he rarely ever raised his voice. Sometimes he would even spoil me and it would upset my mother. Others in the family were impressed at the different treatment. So my father was like the gentle giant (the soft parent) in the house. Definitely not the way my half brothers remembers him as.

Why do you think some fathers like mine are gentle with daughters? Is that natural?

I think so. I'm kind of the wrong person to ask though, because I was unplanned but ended up being the daughter my mom always wanted. I have three older brothers and was pretty much spoiled by my two oldest brothers as well as by my dad. My mom was the one that disciplined me. My dad really wasn't hard on my brother's but talked to them different than he did to me.

I think it’s common. I guess we don’t stress them out as much. 😂 I think my mom was the one in charge of being tough with me, my dad would always say yes or laugh a little when I was a brat. He was like my friend.

Males tend to be tough with each other, but not with females, it's nothing new.

I guess fathers have a deep-seated need to protect their daughters from the challenges they may face in the world or so I have heard.

Boys need to grow up tougher than girls do. Girls need a lot of protection.

My own father was the same.
