So I have this friend that I'm not really close to. Actually we only see each other like 3 times a year or something. It's cuz our moms are actually friends so we kinda had to become friends. I'm not saying it's a forced friendship though, like she's pretty chill.
Anyways so her birthday is in like a few days and she's gonna have a birthday party. And a lot of her close friends from school or whatever are gonna be there, meaning that I literally won't fit in cuz I won't know anyone who's there other than her, and she'll be with her closer friends. So overall, I don't want to go to it. My sister was also invited but she said she wouldn't be able to go cuz she has work that day. So I talked to my mom and she kind of understood that I'll feel awkward there and so she decided that I could not go. Cuz I really don't want to go. I'm like a huge introvert and I'm not good at talking with people. I know that some of you might say that this party could be a good opportunity for me to talk to more people, but please understand that I really can't do this.
Anyways so I thought that everything was good and that I wouldn't have to go, but they changed the date of the party to a day my sister isn't working, so my mom is now saying again that we both have to go, and I know that my sister doesn't want to go either. We once went to her party a couple of years ago and it was the worst thing ever. We were just there in the corner cuz we didn't know anybody there. We hated it. So, how can I convince my mom to let me and my sister not go to the party cuz there will be like nobody we know there and it's gonna be so awkward.

yess i've been there 😩 I'm going to be completely honest: there's no fighting it unless your mom will get something in return of letting you stay home. Like my mom would never let me stay home from social events unless I cleaned the house or cleaned the car or something like that. Just come up with a compromise to help out with something or get something done in return for not having to go.
Why do you HAVE to go? You can make your own choice, can't you? Is there a rule that if you choose not to attend something you are not comfortable with that Karma will kick your butt or something? You don't need an excuse, especially if you are not really close to a person. Some people just invite everyone for the sole purpose to get presents anyway. So don't feel guilty. Would they come to your party if you invited them?
Just go. you're not going to get better at talking to people by continuing to not talk to people. Its okay, you'll be fine. Dont sit in the corner the whole time, someone will want to talk to you.
Im an introvert too, and have some kind of undiagnosed anxiety disorder, but I learned to talk to people by just doing it.
Try to relax. Every friend starts as someone you dont know.
I'd force yourself to go and socialize as practice, prepare in advance by looking up questions and such. It's better to do that in a safe space like mom's party than in the future on your own. so I'd suck it up.
otherwise, tell her, you aren't going, you are going to the gym instead.
