I think CONSENT is this biggest issue with this one. I try not to judge any kink or form of pleasure as long as all parties involved can give *concious*, un-pressured, and enthusiastic consent. This cannot be done with animals.

My answer to the question is really "IT DEPENDS". I think in variables and so I wish to address different options within this topic from an analytical approach with the hopes of fostering layers of thought beyond the knee-jerk reactions this question is likely to prompt.

Regardless of whether the friend took real life action on this or not, I would strongly encourage them to see a therapist to help work out where this desire was coming from. Better understanding it could allow for the potentials to create healthy coping mechanisms, transfer that desire to a healthier alternative/s, etc. This could be especially helpful to their own mental well-being if they did not like that they had this desire, even if they never acted on it.

WITH LIVE ANIMALS:

IF the friend was doing this with real live animals and had either no desire to adjust this behavior or was not willing to try some form of therapy to do so, then I would find them unconscionable and completely remove them from my life. If they lived in a state with bestiality laws I would report them.

IF they hated what they had done and showed, not only effort, but progress with therapy to stop using live animals in their desires, then I'd try to stay a supportive friend. I would likely distance myself from them a little until I could trust my respect for them again through their improvement, but ostracizing them could be detrimental to their determination to work through therapy. I wouldn't judge them based on their fantasies, but on their interactions with living creatures

IF ONLY IMAGINING:

Having internal fantasies but NOT acting on them or encouraging/supporting others to do so is another thing. Ultimately that is not harming another creature and does not propagate that kind of treatment towards live creatures. If these fantasies are disturbing to the person having them, then therapy could help make sense of it.

DIFFERENTIATION between fantasy and real life harm:
Fantasy: Reading/watching material that crosses over into bestiality (like some mangas) is fantasy and does not take advantage of living creatures.

Harm: Reading, watching, or paying for porn where *live animals* are involved is supporting the creation of such content and is just as harmful as engaging in the act itself. I use the term "harm" as no human can know the extent to which this impacts an animal because the differences in our species does not allow for direct and clear communication.
