I’ve an ex-girlfriend named Shayna, which means beautiful in Yiddish. Ashkenazi culture forbids us to name kids after a living relative, but if Shayna ain’t a relative anymore, I guess I can use Her name. However, I plan to use other names that other girlfriends don’t have.

That would be a big fat hard "no" for me. Besides... how would you even explain to your current significant other where you got the name from? "Yeah I want to name our baby after my ex. What do you think?" You better have an escape route planned.

My grandpa named me with the name of his mistress lmao (it was Adaline) but my mom found out and she quickly changed it before it was official.

No. A weakness of mine is that I associate things. If having a bad day and watching a movie or something, I’ll always remember when watching it again. Good for filing away to memory but damn annoying. So a name would be constant reminder.

If I was naming the child after my mother, sister or wife sure. Same name or not after. Most women would never let you name a child with the same name as an ex.

No. That'd be too weird. And how you going to explain why you like that name to your wife. It may seem, and be innocent. But she might not take it that way. It just opens a can of worms that doesn't need to be opened. 😆
