Do you support maternity leave? Why or why not?

Maternity leave is when the mother can take leave of absence from work after she gives birth so she can have time to recover from labor and delivery as well as time to bond with baby. Or even parental leave where not only the father can help the mother recover after she's gives birth, but also use that time to bond with baby as well.

If a given company is willing to offer it yes. But if we are talking about enacting a law that forces a company or business to offer it, no. Though this question brings up a sad truth. A company offering to pay for a abortion, time off and concealing after it is more then likely going to save a lot of money over offering maternity leave. So it makes me wonder if all of the major companies offering to pay for abortions, time off related to them and concealing are doing so with some kind of cost cutting measure.

Sure it sounds unbelievable for cost cutting to be part of it. But lets be honest most big named companies look at the vast majority of their employees as replaceable cogs in the machine and we are only worth is how much money we bring in or save the company. So if a abortion package is going to save the company more money then offering maternity leave, that is what they will go for.

I support. Maybe that would help to rise falling birth rate if mothers had better circumstances to raise babies.

Although in Europe all countries have maternity leave and Europe is dying, so I guess it wouldn't help.

One reason why it hasn't had much of an effect in Europe is that companies don't like it and often illegally fire the parent when they try to come back after parental leave.

I’d def prefer parental leave so that both parents can help eachother take care of the kid and still receive some kind of funding. But personally i prefer to continue saving so that i can just takeoff the first year or two of the babies life and fund myself

Yes but in the states the 6 weeks they give just isn't enough. Mothers need more time then that to establish breastfeeding and to bond with the baby. I don't work but I've had 3 kids and I can't imagine having to leave a 6 week old that is way too young.

A job can offer it, but it should by no means be mandatory or entitled to anyone. Because what you do in your personal life should not affect your job or ability to work. No one has to pay you for your personal choices.

But if a company wants to OFFER maternity leave, I am fine with that.

Enacting a law requiring companies to do this seems "tyrannical", especially for small ones.

What should have a mandate is your job security on a company while on leave. To the companies: Just... be human.

Parental leave is great (I did it in Germany three times myself), but...

1) How long?

2) Who pays for it, including the health insurance?

At my current job it's 4-6 weeks for vaginal birth and 6-8 weeks for C-section. The company pays for it. My coworker that just had a baby via emergency C-section had 6-8 weeks, while her husband only had 2-3 weeks cause you know she had surgery. His company paid for it. The health insurance helped as well.

that's great. The reason why I ask who pays is that the employers of people in low-paying jobs would never pick up the tab for that, and they also need the parental leave.

100% for it even if made me work longer in a marriage or relationship. I think it´s healthier to allow the mother time to bond with her child and recover from the labor.

Why wouldn't anyone support Mat Leave? It's a necessity.
Also, with work from home becoming a thing, it's possible for moms to work remotely indefinitely or at least until the kid is in school.
