Friend always stirring the pot between me and others, why?

Especially her boyfriend. She’s always trying to cause conflict between me and other people, by telling them I insulted them when I didn’t. And then they get angry at me. Then she sits there, looking amused?

eg. I told her I disagreed with her boyfriend on something he said but I didn’t insult him. Then I heard her talking to her boyfriend in private and she said “[my name] just called you [her bf] a pathetic little bitch.” Then her boyfriend got angry at me and started an argument with me. My friend was stood there smiling at the argument.

Why does she do this? What should I do?

Put permanent distance between you two as she is NOT your friend. She is an abusive and highly manipulative person with clear psychological issues.
