I have this friend I’ve known her all my life but whenever I leave her company I end up feeling really rubbish about myself and my life.
she's got anorexia and severe low self esteem and she is deeply insecure. The latest time I met up with her she kept pressurising me to join a ballet class with her but I wasn’t comfortable with doing it because I did ballet a long time ago and it doesn’t interest me anymore. I prefer to go to the gym. But she kept saying ‘don’t worry about being too big for ballet there’s all shapes and sizes in that class’. And I told her I wasn’t worried about my size and that I’m happy with my body but for some reason because I declined her numerous attempts to go to the ballet class she decided to punish me by being rude to me all day and insulting me and my life choices.
She told me that she thought that my sister’s eyes were far apart (this was strange because my sister has nice eyes and it’s actually her eyes that are really far apart). She also told me that my job was rubbish and based in a rough area, even though my job is really glamorous. When I got put in a posh hotel for my work event and had all meals paid for she kept being negative about it and said ‘well that’s the least they could do for you’. Then she spent an hour lecturing me on how rubbish administration roles are and how she’s glad she’s not in my career. I had to put down a £100 deposit for the hotel but I got the money back but she told her entire family that work made me pay £100 to stay in a nice hotel.
Then it got even weirder. She asked to see my dating site profile and how many men I’d matched with and asked to read all my messages and then compared my dating profile and pictures with her profile. I also noticed that she kept comparing my hair with hers and saying that my hair looked long and in good condition whereas hers is really thin and wispy.
This toxic behaviour is really making me reevaluate the friendship. Why is she being this way?
