If a good friend of yours warned you about a person and later it turns out they were completely lying about it would that make you question them?

So lets say you just meet a person and you like them. but a close friend of yours also happens to know them and tells you they are not trustworthy do to certain details he tells you. Then later on after getting to know the new person more you find out the close friend who warned you completely lied about it.

What would you do?

I'd wonder if the good friend lied or if the other person is treating me different than the good friend, cause if the good friend is someone I'm super close with I'd believe them no matter what, cause they wouldn't lie but that then means the other person probably treated them badly, which if that happened then they should of told me the whole story.

Absolutely! I despise it if anyone lies to me! Lying to me, and cheating on me are the two things that will absolutely result in a break-up… you’re dumped! No questions, no why would you do that? Just a simple “you lied to me, it’s over! Goodbye!”

That totally depends on how else I've seen them treat the person and other people. If my friend is generally super cool and honest with people, I would assume they just made a mistake. If I've seen them to be unreliable in other ways, I would take note that they seem to have a problem with the person.

This is why I always cross-verify things myself. Not directly, but in more of a subtle way. Have been doing this for so long that I myself do not notice that I am doing it, sometimes.

I wouldn’t think that makes my friend untrustworthy. Everyone has different experiences with people. Someone that they don’t like/don’t get on with could be someone that I get on with very well.

I would ask them to give me a real reason and an apology to them. Also explain to them what they told me and tried to make me believe to help clear it up. I think I might be able to look past it. by the way I would also apologize to them if I actually believed what I was told.

I would stop talking to my friend or I would confront them. I would ask them why they lied.
