Is it normal for a therapist to tell you you're overreacting to being hurt?

I had a situation where my friend uninvited me to a party of hers. It hurt my feelings I guess because it opened up wounds of rejection and abandonment for me. I told my therapist when I went for my session with him, and he said “[My name], there’s a pandemic going on and people are dying all over the world. You’re worrying about a party. It really isn't a big deal.” Is this normal for my therapist to tell me that?
