I've heard it to many times over such little things. Not really offensive anymore, just let's me know it's an intitled person that assumes they are always right and never wrong that just heard an opinion different then their own.
Why would I take that suggestion seriously from anyone who isn't a therapist themselves?
Usually ots from someone I know that has their own issues that they refuse to get over or see a therapist about so it just kind of makes me laugh.

Had a friend with daddy issues who kept dating shitty men, she literally glorified toxic masculinity, she like confrontational men who argue, she felt she deserved to be treated badly, she refuses to communicate issues she just bottles up her feelings until she decides to dump them cause they should be able to "take a hint", and she thought she could tell me I need therapy.
Or the friend who's had therapy cause her apartment burned, even tho therapy didn't help her any.

You don't speak to a stranger or a casual acquaintance like this. This is a serious faux pax! Telling someone you are not close to that they need therapy is almost as insulting as telling someone "you will pray" for them as the closing line in an argument. Besides therapy only works when the person accepts they need it and gets involved. Several years ago I had to tell a female friends with benefits she could no longer come to my home and we had to stop seeing each other. She was drinking far too much and I told her if we continued to see each other she needed to get into a treatment program. I was told to go to hell and with sadness, I removed her from my life with the promise that we could continue once she got in one. To date, this has not happened. I do tell men after their wives and GFs have been caught in infidelity they need to get into therapy, but this is a very different situation in my opinion.

Yeah I probably do need to be at a therapist's office 2-5 days a week! Not even kidding.

So no, I wouldn't be offended. I'd thank them for their concern, and ask them if they could refer me to one

No offense taken but those who say that have no clue how it actually works. They often think that seeing a therapist is a end all fix to all problems.

It is not and often doesn't that way. They are the ones who probably should see one, to see how things really work, in the real world.

I don't think necessarily anybody would like being told that they need a therapist. If they're saying it out of concern then it be easier to not take offense, whereas if they say it as an insult than maybe.

I think there are many people who see therapist that if more people were more aware of that they not see it as a bad thing or take offense.

In this day and age there is a high level of stress, anxiety, mental health issues and various mental illnesses that have led so many more people to be in need of therapy.

Highly depends on the context. Most cases no though because I would agree with them, not that I would because Therapy is awful for me.
But someone told me I need therapy for liking BDSM... Like umm? BDSM is a pretty common thing that longs if a safeword and consent is involved what is is your business?

When I was young, maybe. Now, and since many years, even often when I was young, I would try to understand calmly why that person is saying that, which may lead me to introspection first just in case, but may also reveal a lot about the person giving that advice. It may be meant as an insult, or defence resulting of not knowing how to react to some situation or thing said. For instance a truth the person can't handle for whatever psychological reason.

No way. The people in my life that I could imagine saying that would only say so if they were concerned. Anyone else saying it doesn’t know me well enough to make that judgement.
Besides, I think a lot of people could benefit from a little therapy.

No it means they are caring for me but it depends on the situation. Like if I say I'm feeling depressed and they say to look for a therapist then I will find that they are caring. If I say I like pineapple pizza (which I don't like in real life) and they say to look for a therapist then I will find it teasing. If I say that I want to change my religion and they say to look for a therapist it is offensive. However not enough to offend me.

yes, when i was about 13 my mother forced me to see a therapist after something traumatic happened to me because she didn't believe me. i cryed in every single session and refused to talk to her esspecially because i knew my mom was on the other side of the window ready to listen in on me. i didn't want to talk about what happened because bringing it all back up was something i didn't want to do.

I don't get offended, but I'm also very open at telling that I hate psychologists, I spent years on therapy and only ended up getting worse. I managed to learn to fix my stuff and deal with myself, still not the best at it, but I'm my best therapist. Fucking psychologists, I hate them.

I said yes but only because I was taking a strict interpretation of your question. If someone told me that I need to see a therapist, then I would be offended. If someone gently suggested that it might be of help if I see a therapist, then I wouldn't be.

Maybe, considering the fact that I have tried therapy in the past and I don't feel it helped me. The number of people seeing therapists has been increasing, but so has the suicide rate, so quite frankly therapists really need to update their methods, because their current ones suck.

one of my friends is a counsellor and my other friends have ‘arranged’ for me to go out for a meal and invited my friend lol.

Usually people who say that actually need to see the pherapist, cos they are usually an extremist with ridiculous unrealistic views, who are convinced the way they see things is right, and if you disagree with them you need help, meanwhile you're the down to earth rational person, and they are the one with extremist views

1) Therapy is nonsense, case in point, everyone I know who started "Seeing a therapist" has not improved their lives at all. Therapists benefit from you continuing to need them. It's like going to a drug dealer to rehabilitate your drug habit.

2) No, it's often used as an insult in a conversation, it's very rarely based in honest concern. So you can usually ignore these people.

I didn't vote. If someone quietly takes me by the hand, looks me in my eyes and earnestly tells me this, no I wouldn’t.

If they were beung dismissive and just flippantly said it to me then yes I would be offended.

The first is sincere the second is an insult.

After my girl cheated on me I needed to see a therapist. I got told constantly to seek help. Of course I never did because i’m not that mentally week. I just needed someone to talk to but not actual help. I beat her ass and felt a lot better after fucking her in every way possible. Now she’s my personal slut.

Depends upon who says it and under what situation. If it's a friend who shows concern over certain of my behaviours, I won't take an offence but if someone says out of an issue of not my fault, I may take offence.

It would really depend on the pretext. Although it is offensive, stuff like that doesn't usually get under my skin. It's usually that low key, smartass remarks that hit a nerve with me. Can't stand when someone tries to be slick mouthed.
