If I wanted relationship advice about my boyfriend/husband, etc, I'd want to go to a male therapist. If I had female friendship issues, a female therapist might be better, however it's always good to get a male perspective on things. A lot of men don't make things as complicated as women do, so going to a male psychologist might make me realize that my issues aren't such as big a deal.
I agree with the other responder about crush being a concern, but that could easily happen with a female therapist as well, just because emotions get so intense. I think using the inability to have a crush on the therapist may become an excuse to overstep boundaries in other ways.
Most Helpful Opinions
To be honest I would probably end up having a crush on my therapist if they were a male. So I prefer a female therapist, it keeps the environment more professional for me.
