Isn't it illegal for a girl's father to punch/beat up a HS boy?

There was a soap opera about a girl that got played. The guy dated her out of pity and made her believed he loved her. Both of the characters were 17 year-olds in HS.

Then the guy tells the truth, girl is heartbroken and the girl's father punches him a couple times, drawing blood on his mouth.

In real life, wouldn't that be illegal? Just like the girl, I assume the teenaged boy has parents too. Wouldn't the boy's parents also be coming after him and file assault charges on a minor? If I were the mother of the boy, I would be super furious and file charges.

I can't think of any parent that would be happy their child got punched/beaten by an older, grown man that clearly overpowers him.
