Is narcissism genetic if my mom has it?

She's a narcissist and a toxic person. She's the very person that's toxic to any man that has the unfortunate luck of having a relationship with her, staring with my father. I don't speak to her too much. I'm closer to my father.

I had a nightmare yesterday. In the dream my mom was in court making a false allegation and the poor man was taken away. She's smiling then suddenly her face changes and it's me, laughing in a wicked way. I woke up.

Is narcissism genetic? Will I become her if she has it? What did that dream meant?

I've unfortunately inherit her recessive eye colors. The people that has the unfortunate luck of dealing with her claimed her bad nature was associated with her eyes. I have her same eyes too. I'm scared of becoming her. I became her in my dream.

No, I've read about this a bit and psychologists believe it is not genetic. It is in the DSM (the reference manual of diagnostics for mental health disorders), and some people are believed to have NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) which is more serious or advanced or intense than just basic narcissism. But either way, it is not carried genetically (they think; understanding can always change with new information and discoveries of brain science.)

In short, you don't have to worry. However, you will be negatively impacted by being raised by a narcissist.

Well first of all, whomever told you that narcissism is in the eyes is full of it. Completely ignore them.

I think your dream is representing your fear that you will turn into her. Not that it is fate that you will, but that you fear it. It is also not true. You are your own person. If she had Multiple Personality Disorder, let's say, yes, some mental health issues can be hereditary - meaning, the risk is increased, but not a given. But narcissism is not like that, from what I've researched.

It is probably a combination of genetics and learned behavior. Most likely the latter.

I hope so. I don't want to become a toxic, narcissistic, radical feminist like her. She's the exact women that gives the rest of us a bad representation, that ruins it me and the others that want marriage for love and having a family (the innocent, traditional love, the real meaning of commitment). What did my dream meant?
