Would you allow your parents to come live with you?

My mother has recently came in to live with us, on me and my wife insistence to keep her close and support her after the recent events. Insofar we are going on well - the house is large enough to allow everyone space without being all over each other all the time, and sometimes she gives us an hand with out daughter (and that really helps in making her smile a bit).

Wow I'm glad you are all banding together. That's nice. It's been an eventful and difficult time for all of you.

There was talk many years ago of my mother coming to live with us (well, I asked her if she wanted that), but she didn't want it, and neither did we. We do not have the financial or space advantages that you have. We would have been on top of one another.

Yep, and although things have stabilized now, sometimes there can be difficult moments. Surely being close helps a bit more than being alone, although she has her spaces for her privacy.

I understand, space is really important for healthy boundaries and relationships. Always being close can lead to irritation and arguments - the classic cabin fever.

we were prepared for her to move in with us but the dementia took hold quicker than we expected and the necessity to change her medication immediately precluded us from taking her in. siblings live close to check on her almost every day and she has a phone in her room and we all call her frequently so she's not abandoned. it's still hard to see this anchor of a person grow frail and weak and unable to care for herself when she used to be so strong.

My father dies in 2007.

My mother is alive and now 91 years old. She is married to a man who is now 92 years old. I have known him for over 25 years and he has always been an irritating, annoying, immature guy. I would NEVER want him living in my house but I could easily handle my mom living with us.

no, I would've left for a reason otherwise I wouldn't have moved out. Their culture places an emphasis on family to the point that it's ideal to have even your extended relatives in the same household or at least in the same neighborhood.

I wouldn't mind living with the rest of the family though.

Sure. If I'm ready to not bring any girls around. I was on one the other day and they entered my room without knocking and talking to me like I wasn't doing anything.

I answered the conversation like I wasn't doing anything. The girl was so embarrassed. It got worse when my mom said I should shag her in the reverse cowgirl so I can grab her arms to make penetrative better.

She said, "I am weird" and didn't stay for dinner.

Yes I/we did more than once. Was good although a sacrifice at times. But they gave their all to their kids, it's the least I could do.

My late maternal grandma came to live with us for 8 months, it got rough in the end she had Dementia, and she was hallucinating, she was like in her late 80s.

If I needed the help or if they did sure. I could see though where it would be tough if you don’t have a good relationship with them.

No. My mother was very difficult and when she was recovering from surgery I moved her in to my house for a few months. She complained about everything. We were held hostage for 112 days.

Honestly no, I love my parents but I couldn't live with them again as an adult. My parents were too strict and controlling when I was younger and it completely destroyed our relationship.

Yeah, but I'd just throw a blanket outside the house and tell them to lay in it. I'm not gonna let my dad bring alcohol in, get drunk and break shit and piss off the neighbors

I moved in with my parents when COVID-19 hit. Now that my mom had a knee replacement, it's good that I am here. My dad can leave or be away for a time knowing that I am available for my mom.
