Am I exaggerating in my reaction or am I right?

Someone had written in her biography about the mental illnesses she had. I'm pretty sure she doesn't even have one of those diseases though, because if she was really sick she wouldn't show it. I told her that she was an attention freak, that I was sure she didn't even have one of those diseases. I said, "I bet you're posting a photo of the hospitalization on your Instagram story, which is definitely fake."

After that, she said that her diseases were diagnosed and she used medicine for them. She said, "I've never got so much prejudice in my life," and put a crying emoji.

I mean, some people actually are pretty open about talking about their health struggles and it's actually kind of encouraged in the modern day to be more open about discussing them in order to chip away at the stigma surrounding it. It's kind of healthy to talk about your problems.

So yeah, if you attacked a girl just because she spoke about her issues out loud, you're kind of an asshole.

If she really isn't diagnosed, then sure, she's either trying to get attention or trying to fit in because, like I said, it is kind of common to talk about your issues these days. But still, the fact that someone would attack her over it, without actually knowing their situation makes them a bad person. Even if they knew for sure that the girl was lying, who actually cares? Why would that be their business? Would her harmless lie justify that kind of behavior? I don't think so.

You did make a pretty significant assumption. Could you have not probed and sympathized? Maybe, she would have opened up to you. How about back tracking and apologizing and see what happens. Stuff like what you did, without some sort of apology, can knock another into to a Depressive episode. Maybe, reach out gently?

You don’t know forsure. You were not any of the medical professionals that treated her.




If you were depressed or feeling down. You’d feel the same way if someone called bs on that.




Furthermore, human beings by nature are social creatures. So some people might keep their inner problems to themselves. There are people who don’t do that, and seek “attention” to feel better.
