Why does my ex want to see my pregnant stomach all of a sudden?

I am 3 months pregnant. My child’s father didn’t want the baby and left and told me I’d be raising the baby alone. And he blocked me everywhere today he unblocked me and texted me asking for a picture of my stomach and asking how i was doing

His first reaction was an overreaction.

He was scared. He did not feel prepared to be a father and so he ran away and left you to face the circumstances. Not impressive. Not very manly, but it happens,

Then he got time. Time to think things through. Time to think calmly and rationally. That calmed him down. To this then there is the simple fact that - when push comes to shove - a man in some part of his soul wants to be a father. He wants to hold in his arms the little life he helped to create.

Oh, and yes, he wants to protect you and care for you too. He suddenly realizes that you are giving him a gift unlike any other and he realizes that he cares for you and the little life you are carrying.

Frankly, as the father of four children out of wedlock, I know those emotional ups and downs. I've gotten four women pregnant. One woman had a miscarriage. One - and it hurts me to this day - had an abortion and I still miss the child I never got to hold. My girlfriend and I have had three children - the first two were unplanned. Then finally, a few years ago a woman with whom I had a one night stand contacted me to inform me that I had gotten her pregnant all those years ago and that I had a teenaged - actually, he was 12 at the time she contacted me - son.

(She had opted at the time she found out she was pregnant to raise the child on her own and not tell me I was a father. Only years later did she decide that our son needed to know his father and so - somehow - she managed to track me down and we tested and sure enough, I have another son in addition to my two little boys and my little princess.)

So believe me. I've been there. Although I never would have done what your ex did - I felt that it was my child, I needed to stand up and be a man - I did go through those ups and downs.

So why the photographic requests and all the rest from your ex? Because it is likely he is trying to find a way to get back with you to be a part of your experience and his child's life. Yet admitting fear is not easy and asking for another chance is not easy, so he makes clumsy requests like wanting photos of your "baby bump."

Here is what you do: You tell him you are glad to hear from him. You tell him that it is important to you that he be a part of his child's life. You tell him that you want his support. In short, you make it easy for him to come back to you without damaging his pride by telling him how much better off your child will be with his father in his life - and then you open the door and leave it up to him. Do so in a warm and forgiving way, but do it.

Of course, if you don't want your ex in your life and his child's life, then skip all that. However, you and your child will both pay a price for that. (On that, the data are clear.. Mothers without the father of their child in their life tend not to do well and their children do even worse.)

Only you know your circumstances - and only you really know him. However, be forgiving. Be understanding and let him back in your life and that of your baby. Yeah, his picture requests are silly - but they suggest a man who realizes how much he has to lose and is trying to find his way back.

Maybe someone talked some sense into him and he might want to be there for you and the baby

Maybe he changed his mind? Not sure. I don't want to be naive and assume that he did. But at the same time I don't want to be over cynical and rule it out.

It sounds to me like he may be scared of being a father but push comes to shurv, he will be around for his baby.

But he left me and said he wanted nothing to do with me nor the baby

It's easy to say that at first. But as time passes and the reality that his baby is growing sinks in it becomes harder to ignore.
