So this has been a sorta"BATTLE"for a while between my mom and i!
So long back... we"ALL"drank diet coke whenever we ate out"UNTIL"..."SOMEONE"told my mom about artificial sweeteners saying"SHE"doesn't let"HER"kids drink stuff like diet coke because apparently it has the sweetener in it I guess?
So what does my"MOM"do?
"Makes my sister and I stop"drinking it!
Now"SHE"has"ALWAYS"told"ME"you know, its ok to have it"ONCE"in a while or special occasion"BUT"she"DOESN'T"seem to even let me have it at the"ONCE"in a while mark!
Plus literally"EVERYONE"in my program 85% of them... and"ALREADY OBESE"drinks it LITERALLY 3 times a"DAY"... or MORE even!
From what"I'VE"read about it"ONCE"a day is enough!
But whenever"i"..."or"some"other clever"staff tell the person their with you know"you" should"REALLY"stop letting them have that every day"!
The person just"SNAPS"at us saying"LET THEM HAVE IT"!!! and other NON SENCE!
So"i"haven't had soda in literally over 15 YEARS or so because of my fucking"MOTHER"!
But I love getting"FROZEN"drinks like Starbucks, so I've been getting a Starbucks every time I'm out with my person now instead and bringing my OWN water and lunch... plus my aunt gave me a starbucks gift card""BECAUSE"my mom"TOLD"her you know"the kids are kinda sick of getting clothes every Christmas, eva"really"likes starbucks"but"NOW"my stupid mom wants me to"STOP"getting"THAT"TOO AND FIDGETS?
I'm autistic and discovered and LOVE fidgets... which"ARE"made for autistic people... AND I'm spending my"OWN"money on them"NOT HER"!
I eat"VERY, VERY"healthy overall... my parents even"BRAG"to everyone they know about how well I eat and drink!
"AND"its my"BIRTHDAY"this week, so we went to buy stuff for it... and"STILL"i had to fight my mom to let me get diet coke... EVEN though I REMINDED her, uhhh it"IS"my"BIRTHDAY"isn't it?
We DID end up getting it in the end... but STILL I had to FIGHT for it!
What's her problem?

Diet soda is not for people who are on a diet, it’s for people who have diabetes and cannot drink sugar.
Drinking diet soda when you do not have diabetes can destroy your pancreas and cause you to develop type 2 diabetes.

Ask your caseworker or therapist to have a talk with your mom, saying it's important you learn to think and do things for yourself rather than just be a reaction to her fearful controlling patterns. You want to start thinking things through for yourself rather than just rebel against your mom. She needs to give you a longer leash. I understand her concern, but her tendency to over-control is not in anyone's best interest.

No, you don't need a leash, but your mom will feel scared, after all these years, to just cut you loose without any guidance. She has reinforced dependency on you, and dependency and feelings of inadequacy go hand in hand. As one increases, so does the other. If she slowly releases her control over you, she'll be less likely to overreact out of fear. What no one taught her is to help you believe in your ability to take care of yourself (within reason). The ideal goal is to help you stand on your own two feet, not keep you attached to her hip for the rest of your life.
