  not really a necessity but for some people it feels good that your sexuality being recognized as the way it is not as what people think

  So that it's not such a surprise, when your parents are invited to your wedding only to find out that it's with the same sex. It just sort of prepares them, for the possibility that you could be marrying the same sex (if you're bi), and WILL be, if you're gay
