Trending & News I'm 17 and i get treated way different from 18 my brother my brother gets anything he wants while i on the other hand get treated like I'm a child i get blamed for stuff that i did on accident and just last night i was in bed in the dark at 1 am scrolling on my phone and my mom barges in and says get off the phone and go to bed. i was like ya sure whatever. she kept checking on my every time she got up. next day when i get home from school my dad tells me if I'm up at 1 am on my phone again i get it taken away and to me that's just fucking bullshit I'm 17 almost a adult i shouldn't be treated like this my brother does the same thing and guess what my parents do absolutely nothing..
21, and it depends on the parent and on the situation.
For example, my father has been treating me like an adult from the moment I turned 18. 17 and below though, I was a little girl. Now if I go on vacation with him he books me a my boyfriend a room together, etc. etc. My mother usually treats me like a responsible adult, but there are a few situations, ones that we don't agree on in particular, that she would prefer to be able to tell me what to do about them. However, the person she raised me to be is one that stands up for what she believes in, regardless of who does or does not agree with it. :P
22 and mom talks to me like I'm stupid, 13, and immature. She fights with me more than I've fought with my younger brother (20) and actually kisses his ass. She calls me a b*..tells me things like she waiting for my downfall in life so she can laugh instead of support (like an hour ago today). She's selfish, doesn't respect me as an adult, doesn't let me stay out for more than an hour. Life sucks with her as a mom. I can't talk to her about my problems, get advice, get help, nothing! I don't understand her problem.
that's tough I guess, are your ages close?
try to open this issue with her when she's calm, and don't yell, talk calmly in your turn...hopefully it goes well :)
22 and my mom still treats me like a child, yes, I absolutely cannot stand it. It's even simply in the sense that she acts like she'd act around a little kid, bur she actually thinks she still has the leverage to punish me and reprimand me for stuff. A month ago she yelled at me for drinking at a friend's house...even though I'm 22. She still, to this day, tries to discreetly snoop around my belongings and violate my privacy constantly. She's such an enormous bitch sometimes I just want to scream at her.
*not even
I'm 19 and my parents don't treat me like a child. It really depends on your parents, and how protective they are, but also on the decisions you make. Just talk to them. But honestly I don't think there is that much you can do. You're just gonna have to move out when you're 23 or 24 and show them.

Help! I'm turning 13 and my parents treat me like I'm 8! At first it was just my mom, but then she convinced my dad that I wasn't ready for "big kid activities" (Yes, pretty much her exact words) I have never had a cellphone, up until a few months ago, I wasn't even allowed to watch the Simpsons treehouse of horror because they were "too scary", I'm not allowed to play any games for 12+, only 10+, Im not allowed to watch futurama, rick and morty, and the south park movie (the show is fine but in the movie they said cliterus and thats a no no for my mom) at my mom's house, Im not even allowed to say the word "butt" on the phone because it's "dirty", I'm not allowed to babysit even my little cousin, I'm not allowed to walk the dog by myself (literally not even if I just go 5 ft from our house), I'm not allowed to go with my friends and no parents on Halloween (they said if i had a cellphone I could then I asked why I couldnt have a cellphone and they got mad at me), apparently everything is too scary because my mom is convinced that I have nightmares every night and that i'm terrified of everything all the time (BECAUSE I HAVE ANXIETY, SO THAT MEANS ITS BECAUSE IM SEEING THINGS THAT ARE "TOO SCARY"), my mom doesn't trust me at all, and because I asked if dominique was actually a word in french my mom thought I was on a dominatrix website, my mom thinks im on dating and porn sites because I know what some words mean that apparently "only grown-ups know", my dad thought my bff was on a dating site because she knew what tinder was, and my mom doesn't think im ready for any content meant for kids over 10 years old. It drives me insane and to be honest at this point i would just be happier in a new family that knows how old I am. Its literally insane!!
I am 23 (almost 24) no they don't treat me like a child. Mainly because I barely need to be taken care of. My mom is still a paranoid mom though, "call me when you get there." hahaha lol, she does it because she worries. She will ALWAYS be like that. When I am 50 she will be like that.
Curiousity I suppose. I'm 21 and my mom wants to know where I'm at all the time. She calls me frequantly when I'm out to see if I'm OK. I don't like it but if I don't respond to her then she tells my dad and when I get home he is ready to kick my ass for making my mother worry.
Im a 22 year old girl and my mom treats me like a 12 year old. How bad is it? Well, she sees a makeout session on TV, she tells me to look away or close my eyez... I mean come on, sex is everywhere nowadays, and a make out session is NOTHING. That's how bad it is. She doesn't know that I've viewed p*rn, though... If she did I wouldn't be living wih my parents any longer, id bet.
Haha, mine are the same with the TV thing. Also, if there's ever a sexual joke, and they see me laughing, they're all "wait, you understand that?". It's so awful. >:
21, yep, they do.
you need to assert yourself. be calm, rational- don't fight or yell. it always throws my mom off when I'm able to maintain my cool and walk away from her.
i used to be like that. but yelling/screaming rarely gets me anywhere :p
I'm 18 and my parents stopped treating me like a child when I was like 16. My mom talks to me about her relationship troubles with my own father... Which is worse? lol
LOL yes, totally, they don't even let me swear. They're chill about letting my boyfriend sleep over though, but I think that'd more because they're so glad I didn't turn out to be a lesbian. :S
hahahaha, omg... my mom thought I was a lesbian for the longest time :p
Why would my mum thinking I'm a lesbian be a good thing? :S
I'm 19 and my parents treat me like I'm 30. It's not always a good thing when their expectations of you are too high.
Tell her that it's been a real nice visit, but she needs to go home so you can get some sleep, you have to work in the morning.
I'm 30, and from time to time they do. Just tell her to stop doing what she's doing. Worked for me.
I'm 16 about to turn 17 in a few days my mom treats me like I'm 12 . Me and my friends were suppose to go to the neighborhood park and have a water ballon fight and she said no. i can't stand her she lets my little brother that's olny 8 go outside with his friend when he wants to not fair she treats me like a child and she have the nervous to say I need to get out the house more and chill with friends but when I try to she say no. when I start doing stuff behind her back she bet not say nun.
when I hit high school I guess... But iv never had a bed time or curfew or anything like that
In your parents eyes you are a child, that will never change.
28. and no they treat me more adult. However, I do still tend to act childish from time to time, maybe even immature.
20 and though I live away from home in college, my parents still treat me like a baby
I'm 19.
My parents stopped treating me like a child by the time I became a father for the 2nd time.
