Do you agree that everyone needs love from someone, whether friends, family, or partner?

We live in a society where more and more people say that we should learn to love ourselves first instead of finding love from someone else.

I used to believe in this concept until I started to feel like crap because I wasn't connecting with friends or family at all.

Everyone got so busy with life that we hardly spend time talking to each other.

At the end of the day, don't we all still need friends and family whom we can connect with, which means we are actually "finding love from someone"?

Am I not understanding something here?

I understand what you’re talking about but there’s a difference between what you’re suggesting and loving yourself. We are social creatures, it’s in our monkey brains, we want interaction and connection and yes, that includes finding ways to reach out to our loved ones and saying that we love them as we talk with them and tell them about our lives. But the culture around self-love is more just so that you can always be in good company, so you don’t hate yourself if your family and friends are too busy to talk. Instead of blaming yourself and hating yourself for not reaching out, you simply recognize that you’re lonely and still worthy of love because you care about your own well-being enough to recognize some things are out of your control. Self-love is about learning not to hate yourself for things that were never your fault to begin with, and the rest is that social need we want filled to help keep us sane.
