Why can't a guy and a girl be friends?

So I honestly still don't know how this still even happened especially since we don't really have actual conversations, but we sorta have this special bond almost like a platonic friendship. And it all started by him asking me for a ride while his car was at the shop. After that we always talk, we try to have lunch together and hangout, we were even drunk and we didn't do anything or flirting with each other, and my friends and other Co workers still thinks he might try to do something or keeps saying he likes me more than a friend and he's pretending. Why is it so hard for people to believe that a guy and a girl can be friends with no sexual feelings or liking each other?

Does it happen where one catches feelings? Yeah that’s pretty normal for a man to be into a woman or vice versa. Can friendships lead to more? Yeah absolutely, BUT not always!

Thank you, I hope nothing happens. Hopefully he will only think of me as a friend. I love my friends but it's nice to have met someone that I can watch sports with, play video games, and just talk. Instead of drama, making me dress a certain way or making me wear makeup even though I don't like it, and even though I have known my friends longer I still feel left out and not being my real self around them. Compared to the guy I work with.

Thank you, I guess I just feel safe when he didn't do anything sexual or didn't flirt with me. Even when drunk, I remember everything. So when he called me to make sure he didn't do anything I told them that, " yes we were both wasted, but you told me to stay at your house until I was sober, we sat on separate couches, ate pizza, and watched TV. Then I went home. So I'm just hoping that's a good thing like he only thinks of me as a friend and that's it.

Thank you so much, and yes I agree. Sometimes it's just gets annoying especially at work because they keep thinking he likes me because he never went with anyone else but I just feel like maybe he trusts me more.

I honestly use to avoid having guy friends because of this reason. During our time hanging out the first time I was having doubts, being uncomfortable, worrying and it almost ruined the night because we were having so much fun just talking and watching basketball. I hated that I let everyone made me think this way I feel like I missed a lot previous friendships with guys in the past, but I'm glad I finally decided to just go for it.

I really hope not, I let my guard down after the night when we were both drunk, I was even at his house so I can sober up before going home. We didn't even sit next to each other. We just sat and talk, had pizza and watched TV, afterwards I went home. So in a way im hoping that says a lot about someone, because I know everyone is different but I'm just doing a bit comparison, one of my friends when she's drunk she gets flirty we even stopped her from going home with a guy she met at a club. She does this every time when we hangout. So I figured since he didn't flirt or try to Kiss me, I feel safe. But I'm not saying I will let my guard down but I do trust him a little.
