with the way things are these days, i'd think it was a trap to distract me and then i'll get human trafficked. so anyways i'd just leave it on the ground and if i felt extra bad i'd tell the establishment there was a wallet in the parking lot or something and then leave.

I’d go to their address and give them the money back.
I’d not be able to sleep restfully if I stole someone’s money. I’d feel much happier to see their happy and surprised face.
I hope most of the people would do the same.

Years ago, my husband found a wallet with the owner's ID and a lot of cash (mostly Euros) which we didn't bothering counting.
He very loudly yelled out the name of of the wallet owner since there were lots people in that public place.
Not long after, the owner rushed back towards us while loudly responding "That's me! That's my name! Why? What do you want?"
We held he's ID out of the wallet and compared the man's face with that of the photo in the ID and confirmed that similarity.
He was getting nervous & irate and we suggested that he calm down.
We asked him details to confirm his identity before we told him his wallet had been discovered.
After we returned his possessions back to him, he check to see if anything's missing.
He soon thanked us and offered to treat us to a meal along with his family.
We accepted the invitation but insisted that he did not need to pay for our meal.
Use their info to hunt them down and see to it they got it back! Just as I've done a number of times before.
One guy lost a couple checks and money orders for a total of nearly $1000. I tracked him down and had him meet me at work (a block away from where I found them) to pick them up.
A couple weeks later, I went to the library for a few minutes to look something up on the computer and found a wallet sitting on the back of the computer. The girl next to me said it wasn't hers so, I tracked down the girl it did belong to, met her on my way home from work the next day just as she was getting out of work (about half a block from the library) and gave her the wallet back. There was a $10 bill in it. Once she saw the money still in it, she offered it to me for returning her wallet. I didn't need the money so, I let her keep it. I didn't do it to get a reward, just to see to it she got her goods back.I found a wallet that thick in a store parking lot. There were two police arresting someone on the sidewalk. As soon as they got him in custody, I walked up to one of the policemen and gave it to him. The policeman looked surprised that I handed him that wallet that was stuffed full of money. I have no idea how much it was as the only thing I looked at was the driver's license. I wonder if they took the arrested person to jail before bringing back the wallet to its owner. The address was only a few blocks away.
Well, let me think this through, if I had the money, I would take it all, then since I know where he /she lives, I would go there with my Beretta 92FS, and break in, in the middle of the night, get 'em out of bed, and since they carry around 1,000 cash, they have money, I would rob them, then sexually assault the wife, if she is home, beat up the husband... but then, damn have to spend 30 years in Solidad State prison?
Well, give me a few minutes to think this through again... damn,,,,,,,1,000 cash,... hmmmmThis is not hypothetical to me. About 5 years ago I found a wallet, a cell phone, and an envelope with $15,000 worth of traveler's checks inside it. This happened in a hotel lobby. Long story short I turned everything back to the hotel except the checks. I was staying at that hotel and about an hour later the owner came by and I gave him the checks. All I told the hotel clerk was there was another item, but for security, I was not going to say what it was. When the man asked for his property, 100% identified them by amount and type I was satisfied he was the rightful owner! I have enough money, I don't need to take others.
Im not going to take anything out of anyones wallet. And im not going to deliver it to their doorstep. I’ll likely take it to a clerk at whatever place they left it at. If there was a spare bill lying around with no wallet involved, i’d pick it up
I dont want to sound like and angel, i need the money but i will return it. Because i was in a situation before where my life would had been ruined if the person didn't return my lost stuff. And This person put effort to find me and return it. I will never forget him. God bless him where ever he is. I gave him an award too
I get an adequate allowance so $1,000 is not going to make any difference in my life. For certain, I would never turn it over to the police because they would steal it. I would mail them the wallet by USPS registered mail, with $1,000 and their driver license less about $10, the cost for registered mail. Or else, if they were listed, I would call them and have them pick it up.
Whoever keeps $1,000 in their wallet and is careless enough to lose it, clearly won't blink at losing that amount of money.
That being said, I would mail it back with all the cash and post it on social media to signal my virtue and get some prayer hands in the comments 🙏I'd try to get in contact with the owner and get it to them. It's not my money to take
"But dude, 'finder's keepers'"
Kindergarten is over, the item doesn't belong to you, take it to the owner. Keeping it is larceny
"He can't prove that you stole it"
To that I say, who raised you to think stealing is okay if you don't get caught?I'd take it to my local police station intact & let them rerurn it. I do my best to be a law abiding citizen, 42 & still have not only a perfect non existant criminal record but also a perfect driving record. I even have a foid card & C. C. in a major liberal state:p
Honesty is the best policy. I would return the wallet to its owner, fully intact. Not only is that the honest thing to do, I would want someone to do that if it was my wallet that they found.
I've lost enough cash in my life to understand how important that money could be to someone. Wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I didn't return it.
i found a wallet with money and atm and credit cards in it two months ago i took it into the gas station where i found it.
"Hey were you missing a wallet with a bunch of cash? Well good news is I found the wallet, bad news is the cash is gone. by the way, how do you like my new laptop? It's got RGB, and for $1,000 is better right!"
I found a wallet with $600 in it. I returned it, and the lady gave me $200.
That worked for me.
I'd give it back, it's not mine. I gave a woman her phone back I found and from all the work I put in, was given nothing. do the right thing...
I would give it back and take nothing. 😇
I'd feel guilty keeping it and would at least feel like I'd get caught when I'd spend it.t. b. h. i would mail the wallet with cards and license to the license address, without the cash.
This actually happened to me. It wasn’t in a wallet, though. It was loose cash. Anyway, I think it was close to 200 bucks. I was at work and I took it to customer service.
