How did you manage to buy your first house?

We both moved back in with our parents the year before we got married to save money. We did not buy an engagement ring either. We just saved as much as we could and went out to look ar houses every weekend. We looked at dozens of places that we could afford. Eventually we found the house we liked ans it was hard t ofind a bank to write us a mortgage because I was not a big earner. I found a bank so we bought it. After we purchased the house we went out to lunch with the 20 bucks we had left in the bank.

I had a good job and I was able to save some money, and a couple who lived in my building agreed to split the cost of a two unit building.

Oh, we still had to take out a mortgage, but the monthly payments were manageable for us.
