Why do I never seem to fit in?

I have a small friend group who appreciates me and what I do in life. But sometimes I feel like I’m not wanted and don’t get the respect. Last night there was this guy who is has darker skin which I don’t have a problem with that at all I’m not racist or judge anyone. But he would he randomly just say “white trash” make some jokes white jokes. Considering everyone at the table is white…To be honest I’m originally from a small town in Scotland and I feel racism is complete unheard of where I come from. Just don’t understand why he would say that amongst everyone. I asked about his job and he just said “I’m not going to talk about it” I feel his behaviour was strange and completely a shock to me since we were cool before

I can understand how that situation made you uncomfortable but I guess I’m having a hard time drawing the line of disrespect directly towards you? Or why saying he doesn’t want to talk about something gives you the impression he has negative feelings towards you? Does he target you or make you the butt of jokes? Something that correlates with your problem?

Everyone at the table was white though I wouldn’t say it was completely directly towards me but it just really made me feel awkward.

I can understand that, but do you see what I’m getting at with my question? Like everyone was white, you weren’t singled out or targeted, it was just one guy being obnoxious towards the group. So it just doesn’t really align with you saying you don’t feel appreciated and left out. Is there something else you didn’t mention?
