Is a father protecting his child and placing himself at risk nurturing too?

My dad is less expressive than my mom and tends to show more actions. Though when I was 10, he did once took the impact (on his legs) of a reckless old driver just to get me out of the way. I was ok but he had to walk with crutches for a whole month and do physical therapy.

Would that be just as nurturing as a mother that provides affection, comfort and warmth towards her child?
