Is my father wrong in thinking you should defend your child no matter what?

My husband and I think differently. It's one thing if my child is treated unfairly by someone for no reason but if my child for example is caught in the wrong (for instance bullying a classmate), I'm not going to enable and defend the bad behavior.

We have a 10 year-old daughter and a 7 year-old son. Our son got caught taking a small toy from a store. We went back to the store and made him return it. Spoiling him or doing nothing about it just because he's our son would be enabling it and letting him get away with it or more things when he's older.

How father thinks someone should defend their child no matter what, even if they're in the wrong. I disagree 100% on that. I will defend them if they're in the right but if they're in the wrong I'm not supporting the wrong action. You can still love your child without being an enabler.
