Are there guys that do not care about popularity if they are popular themselves?

I know many popular guys that pursued or married people that were not popular themselves. Many of the women they chose were not super good looking either and did not like to socialize beyond a small friendship circle of females they loved and felt close to. My dad had thousands of friends when he married my mom and my mom only had one friend when she married my dad. This was also before internet was invented.

I might hazard a guess that the greater popularity of some individuals matters more to those who find a particular person popular than it does to the "popular" person.

My best friend is a highly popular local musician. I know that I am a dear friend to him, as he is to me. Am I his best friend? Of course I'm not his best friend. That does not negate our very deep friendship in any way at all. He's as humble as the day is long. His popularity and his talents are amazing to me, but our friendship lies in aspects of our personalities that have nothing to do with his popularity.

I am incredibly fortunate to have him as a friend, not because he's popular, but because we enjoy each other's company in a way that we don't share with anyone else.

Your examples were in the form of romantic relationships. Mine is in the nature of a friendship between two men. I see little, if any, difference.

My guess is that some popular people may succumb to relying on their popularity for their "success" in social interaction. I'd also guess that those particular people are in the minority of those who might be considered to be popular.

I believe almost all the popular guys fall into that category. Very few will recognise that they are actually popular and even fewer will try to mould it to their liking.
