Should children describe their parents only as mom-dad?

Grimes does not want to be called 'mother' by her and Elon Musk kids. She does not want to be labelled a 'mom. When I was kid I would sometimes call my mother with the abbreviation of her name, and she would like it and that didn't cause any problems between us in respect and love. I think it's a perfectly normal request. what do you think?

I agree with @exitseven. Calling a parent by their first name is wrong.

Now, if the parents divorce and remarry, I don't have a problem with the children calling their step-parents by their first name, if it's okay with the step-parent. That way, the original parents mom-dad maintain their importance.

religions taught extra respect to parents, so kids can't say parents name, because that would be like an equal. unless parents allow saying their initial as you said.

I never called my parents by their name, always mom and dad. It seemed like that would have been disrespectful, cold, and impersonal.
