Does moving to next chapter in life mean ending old friendships from high school?

Your friendships are entirely up to you to keep or move on from. Many people keep good friends from high school, while others keep them for the sake of keeping them when they aren't really good friendships anymore, if they were at all. People often confuse with the investment of time in people as being meaningful and some sort of need to hang on to, when it really isn't that important when the person is not really a good friend to you.

You can decide for yourself if the people in your life make you happy and help you grow as a person. High school or not, if they aren't fulfilling friendships, no need to outright cut ties, just quietly move on.

I think friendships have to be based on your evolving personality and not on prior interests and habits. When I was in high school, my friendships were based on the fact I liked the same types of music as my friends and now it's based on the fact that we offer emotional consolation and lifestyle habits that are similar to each other. We are still friends, but the things that keep us as friends have changed. Liked we have gone from listening to music together as teenagers to dining at restaurants and visiting hiking trails together as adults. As kids we could not afford to dine at restaurants.

It could. But that doesn't mean it has to be. Think of yourself as the space shuttle. And your friends as rocket boosters. Rocket boosters will fall away when they get to a certain altitude. Because they're simply not made to go where you're going. The shuttle doesn't decide to not go into space because his friends the rocket boosters aren't made to come along and neither should you. Push your boundaries and grow man.

It does not mean "end" the friendships. Just that you will have new more relevant friends. The best of old friends will always remain friends. The "just because we were in the same class" type of friends will go in the background and eventually be forgotten.

As a guy, once you get married, you do have to let go of the female friends to some extent; specially if you are married and they are not.

If you had life long friends and they started backing off, it's because they are uppity democrats. If you don't speak their agenda, they'll know to dump you. Even though your friendship started at age 12 or 14 and was 50 years of friendship. It's sad that they turned out so superficial.
My friend Janet I've known since I was 14 started sounding different. I found an old Christmas card of hers and she signed it Love, Janet. A year ago her text messages ended with "We'll talk". Screw her and her uppity self.

Not always, but it did for me. I found out after highschool we were all friends because we were all stuck going to the same school. Didn’t have enough in common to translate to long lasting friendships.

not always. but plenty of friendships are based a lot when younger, on proximity rather than anything else.

No, I went away to college and made friends there that i thought i would be friends with forever. i never see any of these people. i still see the friends i had from my neighborhood growing up.

Only if you want to do that! I don’t have time to hangout with old friends in high school because I have a job & a lot of my friends from high school moved out of state. It’s normal to find yourself in this kind of situation, but you have to do what is best for your lifestyle! All* good things have a ending, but best of luck!

No, not necessarily. My Dad still converses once or twice a month with a friend he's known since 3rd grade.
