Thanks to social media it's quite normal for life to move on amd lose touch but reunion options later on come around. It isn't impossible to stay in touch or stay friends these days but will most likely be a much less close relationship. But new friends are always possible if you want to put effort in to them. Most people find work and family takes up a lot of time and only have one or two people they would call a best friend.

8 moBack when I was at that age to leave college, it was hard to leave behind the college friends for sure. The ones who lived within driving distance I'd go and visit, for several years. Mostly tried to move on and get new friends. This was definitely a thing, having to adjust to not having my college friends in my life.

u 8 moOne of the advantages of being in a fraternity or sorority is that you make lifelong friendships with other students. I met my best friend on my first day of college in 1971. He became my fraternity brother and best friend for the past 54 years.

@exitseven No, far from it. This is one of the problems that fraternities have. People who were never in a fraternity assume that they know about them because they watched Animal House. There are a few chapters that are similar to what is portrayed in that movie, but most are much different and far better.
I am an advisor to my fraternity's chapter at the local state university. They are gentlemen, the chapter has an overall GPA of 3.4, they are campus leaders, and I would be quite happy to have any of them as my son. - 8 mo
I wrote a screenplay tht was a sequel to Animal House. It occurred 10 years in the future and Otter was a doctor and Bluto was running for the senate. Some of the other guys were there. They came back for a reunion and find the current crop of Deltas are about to get kicked out of school by President Wormers. I borrowed heavily from my own college experiences.
I was working on it and then John Belushi killed himself with dope so i sort of forgot about it.
8 moTy for inviting me to share but actually after somehow managing to not flunk out of college after 2 years I came back to the same small town where I pretty much lived my whole life. 🤣
Any new friends I meet these days are usually online. I know, right? Like, omg, Random , go get a life. 😊
00 ReplyI moved around with my parents as child from one place to another, so I'm accustomed with losing and getting new friends. I've noticed the change from entirely emotional friends choice as child to pragmatic one as teenager.
10 Reply3.8K opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. Nobody is more surprised than I was when the guys I thought would be in my life forever have all moved on with their lives. When my kids were growing up was really involved with their lives and involved in work and building a nice home for my family. My kids have all grown and gone and my house is set up just the way my wife and I want it. Now it is a little too quiet for me.
00 Reply612 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. I accept that friends suck and making new ones also sucks. To others making new friends is easy I guess but to those who it's not well it's a lonely terrible life and I like been alone so...
10 ReplyWe may retain friendship with a couple of college friends. Perhaps invite one to be made of honor. Mostly, we move on, get a job, make friends with coworkers and others at our new appartment.

Medal of Honor? 😉

@DryGermanGuy The maid of honor. 2 seconds after posting, I noticed the error but posts cannot be corrected.

How many such maids do you know? 🤔
Kelly, I'm in college now and many of my friends have talked about the same thing. We know that after graduation some will go top grad school, some will want to get married and do the kids thing and others will have to move due to career plans. I hope to get into med school and I know that will be very time consuming so staying in touch will be a challenge. Even after 2 + years of college some of my high school friends have moved on.

8 moI never fit in with people my generation. I always end up having conversations with the mature generations they always offer the best advice.

8 moJust accept the change and have new friends along the way. Although my best friends from High School are still my best friends until now. 🩷
10 ReplyIt’s a bit of both, you accept that some friendships fade as life changes, but you also stay open to forming new ones naturally. The key is not trying to replace old friends but letting new connections fit into who you are now. Growth often means your circle evolves with you.

u 8 moLife tends to get in the way. People get jobs, make even careers and those with children will focus on them. I always try to stay in contact, but I get that the day only has 24 hours for other people as well.

8 moAs per my experience I miss my college friends, but have make many new friends, my new friends can't replace old friends and old friends can't replace new friends, so every one is important, we have to accept the truth and go ahead in life
00 ReplyI always make new friends with who I am with in my current situation. When I was in high school I had friends. When I joined the Military I had friends there When I went to college I had friends there. And when I started working I made friends there.
with social media it is much easier to keep in contact with people or reconnect with old friends (depending on age). But I always try to make new friends and network and keep in contact with everyone.00 ReplyNever been to college but I would think it's no different from after high school friends. so probably a little bit of both

8 moNew friends are always being made. The main difference is that, as we grow older, the number of acquaintances we have (i. e.-people we know) typically grows, while the number of friends (i. e.-true friends) decreases.

8 moUniversity for me was filled with a lot of Asians who barely spoke English so with the language barrier, it was most just class/lab interaction. I pretty much just hung out with friends from base … who I am still friends with.

10 Reply Short lived technical school/ college. Have a couple of people that I still know but I've moved on way more then most of those that were in the class. Definitely made many more friends afterwards in the career field of my choice
