Guys, Any of you grow up with a mother who dominated your dad?

Just curious if any other guys on GAG had to deal with that horrible example for a relationship/marriage.

In fairness my dad is no “simp”. But this is a result of:

- My dad had old school chivalry (literally) pounded into his head by my late grandfather. He lost his infant sister to SIDS and this gave my late grandfather this weird abusive mental complex to “protect women at all costs”.
- My mother’s late father was dominated by her mother. It’s an open secret.
- My mother was born a very beautiful woman. Unfortunately she used this to her complete advantage to get away treating my dad like sh*t

No. I didn't grow up with my dad but saw my mom married to my step-dad.

My mom didn't dominate my step-dad but my mom at least back then was argumentative though not just with him but with all her kids.

My mom by nature is a bit combative and outspoken.

I didn't live with her much but sometimes yeah but mostly no. My step-dad was hell to deal with too.

It’s complicated but my mother completely set me up for failure growing up by brainwashing me to kiss women’s asses. My dad did too (inadvertently).

Now I’m a grown independent man and I’ve known for a long time it’s on me to make something happen. But I had a lot of failure in my youth because I was unable to distinguish if a woman was just shit testing vs. had no respect for me.

I have long hated my mother for this. Deeply hated her for it. She still finds way to “play victim” when in reality she has been over privileged her entire life. My dad says he’s the “lucky” one for having a beautiful life but in reality my mom was the lucky one. She’s literally neurotic. Very few other men would tolerate that.

No, but one of my close friend grew up in a family like that. I still feel sorry for him because it clearly affected him and the man he is now. He doesn't stand much chance of having a healthy relationship with a woman.

The problem is it they we have a very hard time distinguishing if a woman is just shit testing us vs. having no respect for us. We were brainwashed to kiss women’s asses (women who don’t deserve it).

I can figure that out quite easily nowadays. But in my teens and most of my 20s I was like a lamb to the slaughterhouse when it came to that.

I’ve never seen my mother own up or apologize to my dad for ANYTHING including getting criminally violent with him. I wish he would have divorced her a long time ago.
