Did I do the right thing by calling CPS?

My boyfriend has a close friend who is addicted to methamphetamine, along with his wife. They have a small child. I’ve known about their substance-abuse problem for about a year now, but I decided to call CPS on them. The office told me that I would remain anonymous, but the husband and wife, along with my boyfriend, are suspicious that I am the one who reported them because apparently they don’t invite too many people over to their home who would’ve known about their substance-abuse issues. My boyfriend is saying that if he finds out I’m the one who reported them that he’s going to hurt me. I don’t understand why he’s taking their side. How can anyone think that it’s OK to be smoking that stuff around a small child? They are not casual users. They use this stuff nearly daily. Now I’m scared that somehow they can petition the court to find out who reported them. Why am I feeling guilty? Did I not do the right thing?
