Should my parents and I be grateful towards a guy because he came to my city twice to see me and spend money, even though I never asked for it because I did have money to spend, but he didn't want me to?

He says we must be thankful for what he did..

sure. if someone does you a favor, be thankful... but something about his demand of this implies a sense of self entitlement; though I can't say for sure cuz I don't know the full story.
