So lets say you are a parent and have a teenaged daughter who accidentally got pregnant. What do you do?

So here's the scenario, you have a daughter who is now a teenager. and despite telling her not to get pregnant she unintentionally gets pregnant anyways. what in your opinion is the best course of action in this situation?

If you're one of those persons who don't want kids just imagine you did have a daughter for the sake of this question. what would you do?

Present her every option to choose. Let her decide if she wants the baby or not and whatever she chooses, support her decision. get her the help she needs too

Encourage her to get an abortion because its life changing to have a baby especially at her age. but if not still support her

Tell her to get it aborted or you will not support her

Shame her for going against your rules to get pregnant but don't abort it because i beleive abortion is wrong

Let her do what she wants but legally disown her for going against your warnings

Who is carrying the baby? She is. Encouraging abortion is more like forcing, and that can be pretty traumatizing. It should be adoption, if she ultimately feels she just can't raise her child.

The other picked options sound like abusive parents, and I hope those who picked that aren't actually parents.

The most petty reason to kick out your daughter. Even at 18 she's not going to have a well paying job. If my daughter got pregnant she can live with me if she had a job or plans to look for one if she didn't have one already, and help out with her baby as she works at her job. Maybe eventually she would get enough for her own place, and as long as she is respectful under my roof, pays for what she can, and raises the child with the best of her ability, she can stay under my roof.

All kids aren't perfect, we weren't innocent angels when we were young.

Anybody thinks of any of those options, aren't fit to be parents.

Having a daughter myself. I would be there for her as I know myself how it feels to be unsupported when you need the support. Another reason for why I would be there for her and support her is because I know for a fact no forms of birth control work 100% of the time. Medical evidence can prove this. Falling pregnant at a young age is not ideal at the same time, why hate your child because of it.

In today's day & age with so many means of not getting pregnant - condoms, birth control, plan b / emergency contraception - I'd be extremely disappointed.

Teen pregnancy is the usual start to a lifetime of failure. Not always. But the norm.

Because it shows a lack of intelligence, responsibility, etc. all of which is useful for getting somewhere in life beyond wiping resturant tables or living off of welfare.

Nothing.

I would've brought my children up to use birth control measures and if they were foolish enough not to be responsible -- they'll learn life is neither a game nor a joke.

Besides this is not my responsibility and I'm not going to be saddled with her child.

Birth control doesn't always work, neither does condoms. There is a woman who was on birth control who fell pregnant and baby came out holding the birth control in its arms. You can find the story online it's a real story that happened

As for plan B people can have reactions to this. I myself had a reaction to it. So your theory that a teenager having lack of intelligence and being foolish can be way off because no forms of birth controls are 100% effective

I would let her know I was disappointed in her for getting pregnant before she was even old enough to graduate high school due to the responsibilities and additional stress it brings to her life as it is. I would also be upset because she would know prior to where I stand on the abortion stance and that she would only be getting an abortion if the birth threatened her life or if she was raped.

I would also want to know who the father was so I can get the whole story as to what happened and the kind of character he has. One way or the other, that guy will be involved in this and I would make sure he takes accountability since he shares it with my daughter in this situation. At the end of the day, unless those two instances above are the reason she wound up pregnant, she will deliver that baby. I would encourage adoption if she wasn't ready to care for it, but if she decides to keep it I will do what I can to help her raise it within reason provided she doesn't see thay as a way to shirk responsibility and get complacent.

There are no positive options, I'm appalled! I would want my daughter to keep the child or allow her father and I to adopt it of course! We'd support her in every way with a baby no matter her age. This is our daughter and our grandchild we are talking about! There's nothing to do but celebrate something so wonderful as a new baby. I've known lots of teen moms who took good care of their babies. I had my first at 19 and did a great job.

If the baby is going up for adoption I'll help her with the process of that, as well as if she wants an abortion. I'd go with her if she wanted, if not I'd take her and let her know I'm there if she needs. I’d help her as much as I could, but she ultimately has to bear her responsibility. How does one accidentally become pregnant? To paraphrase a line in a movie or song I heard as a kid, what did she do trip and land on his d? Unless she was raped (and I really hope she wasn’t), she decided to have sex. This was a possible outcome of that choice. I would not throw her out or make her drop out of school but she would be expected to do everything she could to be a mother if she keeps the baby. I would help her as much as I could.

I suspect it really depends on the particulars of the situation. If I think about my high school girlfriend, we had a great relationship and loved each other, so I suspect the right course of action for us would've been to get married, have the baby and make the best of it. But there are DEFINITELY situations where that would not have been the right call.
