Why does my mother make me feel so low?

My mother was discussing about my elder sister's marriage and said that how beautiful will she look as a bride, and then all of a sudden she said to me that you don't feel bad that I'm not saying the same to you because you're a kid and you'll change in some years (by changing she meant looks).. And also, I am not a kid I'm a 23 year old grown up.. First of all, I feel there was no need to bring me up when the topic was about my sister and if she actually brought me up, she could have given a compliment or two.. I'm just crying since an hour because I feel I am not pretty enough.. Am I overreacting to what she said?

compared to her age, 23 is still young. but that doesn't give her the excuse to make you feel bad. i'd distance myself as she seems like one of those toxic moms who are like "why can't you be more like your sister?"

No I don't think you are overreacting. That was very mean of your mother to say, and she didn't have to bring you into it but for some reason she decided to say you're not as pretty as your sister. Just a mean thing to say. I'm sorry. I hope you are feeling better 💓

Generational curses, resentment, jealousy, demonic possession. My advice to you is to pray for your mother and forgive her. Only a Mom that is hurting talks to a daughter in that way.

Why opinion of others hits you so hard? Do they define your looks? Or how you see yourself? Or how others would see you?

Whatever your mom had in mind let her. It's not important. You and your self-esteem are important. So focus on this aspect and work on it.
