My male friend and I chat on FB once in a while, not much. He greets me on my b-days and vice-versa. We are both taken.
A week ago he confronted with an old incident from HS. He claimed that I once said ''You're nothing but a worthless garbage'' and ''I would go out with you, in your dreams'' but said it was deserved because he acted like a jerk back then. I was 14 back then and he was 15. I'm now 30 years old and he's 31.
I have vague memories of a small argument we had back then (I used to have a crush on him) but don't recall ever saying those words. I was shocked and replied with an ''Wow I did, really, I said all that''? He said yes, that he still remembers it clearly but it's ok because it was a long time ago and both of us were immature. HS was an awkward stage for me.
I've apologized for saying those things he claimed I did. I don't really remember that part though. Why did he brought back an old HS incident?
I can't imagine ever talking to someone in that manner. I'm obviously much nicer and mature than my HS version from back then. Still... I don't remember that part. I can't imagine rejecting someone like that. Wow.. I'm shocked I said all that... that he claims about.

That's real weird of him to suddenly bring up something so small from high school after all these years. Like why is he holding onto that? We were just kids.
I dunno, maybe he's going through some personal stuff and digging up past crap to take his mind off it or something. Or maybe he finally realized now that he really did used to act like a jerk to you back then.
It just sounds like he's got some issues he needs to work on. I wouldn't lose sleep over it if I were you. You apologized even though you barely remember it, so that's all you can do really.
I'd just be casual if he brings it up again. Be like "bro that was ages ago, we're different people now." If he keeps harping on it, then he's the one who needs to let it go.
Don't let him make you feel bad about dumb kid drama. You've both moved on since high school. Try not to dwell on it and give him the satisfaction of getting to you. Stay positive - past is the past!
yeah that was a weird conversation he brought up. Though when I apologized, he said it was actually deserved and that I've put him in his place that day. He said that even as a kid, I never tolerated BS from anyone, no matter how much I had a crush on him back then.
That's even weirder that he said you "putting him in his place" back then was deserved. Like why is he bringing all this up out of nowhere? So bizarre.
Honestly I wouldn't read too much into it. Sounds like he's the one getting caught up in some weird high school nostalgia or something. I wouldn't lose any sleep apologizing when you don't even fully remember what went down.
Like you said, HS was an awkward time - we all said and did dumb shit. Seems like he's just trying to stir up drama for no reason. I'd just be like "okay, weird flex but alright" and leave it at that lol.
Don't let him live rent free in your head now over some old he said/she said stuff. You moved on and seem chill, so that's what matters. Dude's bringing you down talking like that.
Just my 2 cents, but I'd drop it and not engage him further on the topic. Leave that HS mess in the past where it belongs! Your life is good now so don't lose focus.
I see those posts here occasionally and it surprises me every time that someone well into their 20s, even 30s, are holding on to issues from high school. All I can figure is that it was very hurtful or traumatic for them and they’ve carried it all these years like baggage. So I’m not saying you took it personally at all but if you did, then try not to. If he needed closure then you gave it to him, and honestly I don't know how much I’d speak with him going forward. Aside from feeling bad I would be wondering if there are other unresolved issues he’s waiting to unleash onto me.
yeah I found it weird that he brought back some old incident from HS, esp now that you've been good friends since our early 20's. Though he did admitted to being a jerk back then too. I just see HS as an awkward and weird phase for many of us.
Why is he bringing this up 15 years later? I guess it really bothered him. But why not say something long before this?
What is even weirder is that after I apologized, he said it was deserved and that I've put him in his place. Even if that was true, I don't see what's the point of him mentioning this many years after we're past HS drama.
