What can’t people be happy for you?

Currently I’m in Canada on a working holiday which allows me to work until I have enough money to travel/explore for 2 years. However, I told a friend I was gonna visit Chicago and my friend rudely said “can you afford it?” “Omg you have travelled North America more than me” and “don’t go you need to buy winter jackets while you live in Canada” I feel like she’s never happy about anything I do or want to do. What ls with the negativity

they're pretty jealous of you and your ability. they are trying to bring you down so they can feel better about themselves because they don't like that you are succeeding in life. this is a toxic friend and it's best to stop telling them about your life. she'll only keep bringing you down and making you feel bad.

She’s losing a lot of her family/friends because of the way she acts nobody can put up with her. She also lost a guy friend because she said to him dating in woman 10 years younger was wrong and he completely broke her off and they don’t talk anymore

well she'll eventually lose everyone because she's acting like that. i don't think she'll ever learn. you should cut her off too

Nobody is perfect I can tolerate a lot but she’s just really bad to be around I’ve slowly pulled back away from her and I’m feeling better without her

good. i've had someone like that in my life, you don't need that type of negativity. life feels a lot better without a dark cloud over your head

Although she has already bought flights to visit she was originally going to come with a friend but it fell through apparently now she wants me to tag along. I feel like I’m obligated because she asked about coming at in April or the start of the summer and September but there was so many excuses I could give her. So she picked September I’m just hoping she will see her other relatives instead. If she was nice I’d have no problems but she can have her moments and can be rude. The last visit 4 years ago was a nightmare as she was freaking out on the highway and became quite rude “you don’t understand what I’m going through?” It was a nightmare I couldn’t do much as I don’t have a driving license

Some people are bitter like that. They think if they were not able to achieve something then nobody should, and they therefore don't like that you are enjoying your life and don't wish you success. Just ignore them and keep away from such people.

She’s actually a cousin but I refer to cousins as friends tbh luckily she doesn’t live in my country and I’ve slowly faded from her as I couldn’t stand her constant string of texts about nothing all day long just no respect for my time considering I’m in a different time zone.
