Cutting off toxic family members?

I will be leaving next month and my family has a tendency of trying to include themselves in my life when I don't want them too - for example in my last place they kept calling and calling until I got my number changed then used law enforcement to harass me until I had to threaten them with legal action through an attorney.. my family csnt move on and live their lives their extremely toxic and dysfunctional and I don't want them included in my new life ( they figure their suppose to) when I say I don't want them included talking about no contact. Since we have been back, they have created more problems and drama. Every day, all-day drama, drama, arguments, arguments, problematic etc

Do I need to get a lawyer once we leave for a restraining order? - I'm going no contact with my family...

So, restraining orders may be your only real recourse. There is no legal consequence for your ex sharing information about you unless a court order prevents it. You may be better getting him to support you with honey rather than vinegar.


Law Enforcement is legally compelled to show up if they are called in most states, so even with a court order they can call the police (usually under the false pretense of them being worried about you and checking on your welfare.) Not much you can do about that except explain to the police when they arrive and eventually enough will show up that they will start to recognize the situation your in.



Change your numbers. Move away. Dump all social media. Change your job. It’s all you can really do. Explain to your family in clear terms you don’t want them in your life for your own reasons.


From personal experience also be open to counseling as living with people like this in your life does it’s own amount of damage, as well as tainting who you are inside.

Well I went that route of change my number- not tell them where I'm at and they still found me

I still co parent with my ex husband so they can be getting informed from him in regards to my location- I threatened him and told him if he gets involved I will do legal action on him

I am sorry that you have to go through this. I came from a toxic family too. I do think that you should switch your number and move somewhere far from them. I understand it is difficult to break the attachment because afterall, they are our family but your mental health is more important. Trust me if you keep them around, it brings you nowhere. They are energy vampire who drains you. I cut contact with all of them except one of my sisters. My life changes! I started by moving to a different state, then now I am in a different country. It is almost impossible for them to find me lol. I wish you all the best.
