Should I feel guilty for giving away some of my late grandfather’s things?

I broke down crying giving away some of my grandpas things to the family but I wanted them to have something that reminded them of grandpa as well. My grandma told me to get myself together and people do this when their love one passes on and it’s life. I kept the necklace and a couple things of my grandfather. My grandmother of course has her wedding ring from 1960. She better keep that, and a couple things too and got his bed and dresser. My grandma and I also inherited my grandpa estate. I feel so guilty. He did wanted us to have it and added my name with grandmas. Everyone told me I need to be strong and move on with my life.

sorry for your loss. it is best to grieve as much as you need and then you need to move on. let yourself feel sad but then you need to get on with the day. your grandpa wouldn't want you to be sad.

it is true that it is life, when someone dies you have to give away their things. you can't keep everything, it's not possible. you just keep the most special and important things and you also have memories.

I know and I don’t wanna be sad but it’s so fucking hard. I miss grandpa so much. My brother said it’s okay to grieve but we still have to move on with our lives. We can’t keep everything and we have to give it away. It’s not like we’re stealing his things. He would want us and other people to have it. This is reality. Wake up! Nobody lives forever. They don’t! I won’t be around forever, mom and dad won’t be around forever, our sister, everyone and guess what, YOU won’t either. Death is part of life and it’s time that you stepped up and be an adult. For real. You’re not a child. I understand it’s hard. It’s hard for all of us but we gotta go on with our lives. Grieve but you can’t do it all the time. Grandpa wouldn’t want that. That’s why we had a get together and parties and barbecued. Have funds grandpa would want that for us. We’re not happy he’s gone but happy he isn’t suffering.”

i know how you feel. i lost my grandpa when i was really young, 10 years old. the first death i ever dealt with. it was extremely hard being so young and not really grasping how to deal with death. i still miss him. it does getter better though, just remember that.
i do think that your brother could have said all of that in a more nicer way though

Sorry about your grandfather. Being so young loosing him. Yeah my brother could have been nicer about it. My family isn’t really nice. Their kind but they’re brutally honest.

thank you. and i get that. sometimes in certain situations there needs to be honesty, but there are nice ways to be honest especially when dealing with such a sensitive subject.

Keep the memories. The other things are just things even though they trigger memories. Keep something but let most of it go, just like he did with his grandfather and others.

Even my brother and sister told me that it’s okay to grieve and take our time but don’t stay there too long because we have our jobs, life and grandpa would not want us to be sad all the time and nobody lives forever so move on and being nasty and rude to everyone makes shit worse. My sister said, “Look I know it’s been two weeks and it takes time, but you gotta be strong, surround yourself around people that love you so much because being a long all the time isn’t good and grandpa would want you to have fun and move on. It’s sounds harsh and blunt to us grieving people, but it’s the truth. Go on with our lives. Do you think grandpa will want us to stop living, mope around and sad all the time? Hell no! Be an adult and take care of you and your responsibilities. I don’t mean to sound blunt but that is life. You’re not the only one that’s experiencing this and not everyone will give you the support or say what you want them to say.”

Your siblings gave you good advice. Your life has to go on. Even while grieving. Just don’t be too engrossed with it that you get to distracted and a possible danger to yourself and others.

I was referring to being distracted while you are driving or working. Thinking about grandpa. Not that you were dangerous. I think this because of me working around heavy equipment when my parents passed away.
